Grading systems used at Pakistan universities
The national standard: HEC's uniform semester system
Pakistani universities follow the Higher Education Commission (HEC) semester system, which standardises grading on a 4.0-point CGPA scale. Most institutions map letter grades to grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on) against their own percentage cut-offs, so an 85 might be an A at one university and an A− at another. GPAWise stores each university's official scheme individually, so your CGPA reflects your institution's exact policy — not a generic 4.0 conversion.
The HEC prescribes a uniform absolute grading table on a 0.00–4.00 scale for semester-system universities: A (85–100%) = 4.00 down to D (50–53%) = 1.00, with below 50% a fail. Many universities adopt it directly; others — including NUST, FAST and COMSATS — publish their own official deviations, which each calculator here stores.
Converting CGPA to a percentage is a band lookup, not a multiplication: HEC's own worked example maps CGPA 3.00 to 71%, the floor of its band — not the 75% that the widespread "CGPA × 25" shortcut gives.
