Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) GPA Calculator

SZABIST University uses an absolute, marks-based grading system: each letter grade corresponds to a fixed percentage band in your coursework, printed the same way for every campus and every program level (Undergraduate, Masters, MS and PhD). Grade points run on a 0.00–4.00 scale, from F up to A+.

The full letter–marks–grade point table is shown in the Grade Scale Reference on this page. A handful of administrative letters outside the grade-point table may also appear on a transcript: S (Satisfactory), U (Unsatisfactory), I (Incomplete), W (Withdrawn) and J (Result withheld). An Incomplete not cleared by the announced deadline automatically becomes an F.

SZABIST reports a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) that averages all grade points earned toward graduation. Every grade above F counts as a passing grade and is included in the average.

• There is no provision for grace marks — the recorded grade stands as assessed.
• If you retake a course, the better of the two grades is used in the CGPA (both attempts still appear on the transcript).
• An Incomplete (I) not resolved by the specified deadline defaults to an F.

SZABIST follows a HEC-aligned, two-strike probation policy. Whenever your CGPA falls below the required maintenance CGPA for your program level, you are placed on First Probation for the next semester. If your CGPA is still below the requirement after that semester, you move to Second Probation; failing to recover by the end of that semester leads to dismissal. Summer semesters, being remedial, do not count toward probation or dismissal.

The required maintenance CGPA, below which probation applies, is:

• Undergraduate programs: 1.75
• Master's programs: 2.25
• MS programs: 2.50
• PhD programs: 2.75

Separately, a student can also be dismissed for exceeding the maximum degree-completion time (6 years for Bachelor's, 4 years for Masters/MS, 8 years for PhD), for academic dishonesty, or on disciplinary grounds.

The CGPA you need to complete your degree at SZABIST depends on your program level:

• Undergraduate programs: 2.00
• Master's programs: 2.50
• MS programs: 2.75
• PhD programs: 3.00

Degree completion also requires finishing the required number of courses and credit hours and clearing all financial dues, within the maximum allowed time (6 years for Bachelor's, 4 years for Masters/MS, 8 years for PhD).

SZABIST recognizes top graduates through two award tracks:

• Gold & Silver Medals — awarded to the highest and second-highest CGPA in a graduating program batch, subject to conditions: a minimum CGPA of 3.20 on the Final Transcript, completing the degree within the minimum specified time with the original batch's registration number, and a minimum graduating class size (15 for Undergraduate programs, 10 for Master's programs). Certificate, External Transfer and PhD graduating students are not eligible. Only one Gold and one Silver Medal are awarded per program, though ties in CGPA can produce joint winners.
• Chancellor's Honor Roll — open to graduating students who reach a CGPA of 3.50 or higher as reported on the Final Transcript.

Between SZABIST campuses or programs: transfer is allowed subject to meeting the new program/campus's admission criteria and clearing past dues; at least 25% of the program must have been completed at the campus of original admission (waivable only in special circumstances). Transferred CGPA carries forward — it includes grades from the earlier program as well as the new one.

From other HEC-recognized universities: up to 50% of the credits required for a degree may be transferred, but only for courses where you scored a minimum grade of B or 80%. Grades from the previous university are not counted toward your SZABIST CGPA.

MS and PhD programs have their own thresholds: SZABIST students need a minimum CGPA of 2.75 (B-) for MS course transfers and 3.00 (B) for PhD; external students need a numerical score of 70% or higher (MS) or 80% or higher (PhD). Thesis, IRS and other research work is never transferable.
