National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) GPA Calculator

NUST uses a relative grading system: letter grades are assigned by comparing each student's performance against the distribution of their class cohort (the “distribution gap” method), not against fixed percentage cut-offs. Grades are awarded on a scale of 1.00 to 4.00 grade points.

Because grading is relative, there is no university-wide percentage-to-letter band — the letter grades and their grade points are listed in the Grade Scale Reference on this page. To earn credit for a course, an undergraduate must score at least 1.0 grade points (a D grade); an F carries 0.00 and earns no credit.

NUST reports two grade point averages: a Semester GPA (SGPA) for each term and a Cumulative GPA (CGPA) across all completed semesters. Credit hours are the unit counted toward the CGPA, so courses carrying more credit hours weigh more heavily in the average.

• A W (withdrawn / dropped) grade is not counted in the GPA computation.
• When a course is repeated, both the old and new grades appear on the transcript, but only the better grade is used in the CGPA.
• Subject percentages are rounded to two decimal places before a grade is assigned.

A NUST student is flagged as academically deficient on any of these: an F or XF grade, a Semester GPA below 2.00, a CGPA below 2.00, or an Incomplete (I) grade. Deficient cases are reviewed each semester and can lead to:

• Warning — when the Semester GPA falls below 2.00, or the student earns an F/XF grade but does not yet qualify for probation or withdrawal.
• Probation — when the CGPA is below 2.00 (this does not apply in the first semester).
• Withdrawal from the University — recommended when a student accumulates seven or more F/XF grades, earns four consecutive probations (except in the 7th and 8th semesters), cannot complete the degree within the maximum seven years, or earns five or more F/XF grades in the first semester alone.

To be awarded an undergraduate degree, a NUST student must complete the prescribed credit hours for their programme and achieve a minimum CGPA of 2.00. Where a final-year (design) project applies to a BE/BS programme, a minimum grade of C in that project is also required.

The university-wide floor is 2.00; students in the Business & Management and Social Sciences schools must reach a higher minimum CGPA of 2.50.

NUST awards its top academic honors as medals at convocation, based on class position rather than a fixed CGPA cut-off:

• President's Gold Medal — 1st position in academics (undergraduate).
• Chancellor's Silver Medal — 2nd position in academics.
• Rector's Gold Medal — awarded to the students of the best Final Year Project who earn an A grade in that project.

A student is not eligible for the top academic honors (the President's or Chancellor's medal) if they repeated any course to clear a W/F grade, repeated a course to improve their CGPA, took less than a regular semester load, or completed the degree beyond the minimum eight semesters. These exclusions do not apply to the Rector's Gold Medal.

When a NUST graduate registers for a second degree, common courses already studied (with a minimum grade of C) are transferred and waived. Transferred courses are listed on the transcript as transferred, and their grades are not counted toward the CGPA of the new degree — the new degree's CGPA is calculated only from the courses actually taken during the second degree.
