How grading works at FJWU

FJWU uses an Absolute Grading System: every letter grade maps to a fixed marks band and grade point, effective Fall 2018. Grades run on a 0.00 to 4.00 scale, from A (85% and above, 4.00 grade points) down to F (below 50%, 0.00 grade points).

To pass a course, a student must obtain at least 50% marks in Practical, Projects, Thesis, Assignments, Test and Theory Paper — separately or in aggregate.

How FJWU calculates GPA and CGPA

FJWU computes GPA from quality points: multiply each course's credit hours by its grade points to get that course's quality points, sum the quality points and credit hours for the semester, then divide quality points by credit hours to get the semester GPA. The Cumulative GPA (CGPA) divides total quality points earned by total credit hours attempted across all semesters.

  • A final CGPA of 1.95 is rounded up to 2.0 at the graduate and undergraduate level; the same rounding applies at 2.45→2.5 for MPhil and 2.95→3.00 for PhD.
  • W (Withdrawn without failure) is recorded if a course is dropped before the midterm; WF (Withdrawn with failure) if dropped after the midterm; neither carries a grade point.
  • An I (Incomplete) grade is given when a student cannot appear for the final exam for medical or other emergencies — if not completed, it converts to an F.

Academic probation and dropped status at FJWU

For Masters and Undergraduate students (Fall 2018 onwards): the minimum qualifying CGPA is 2.0. A CGPA below 1.7 means the student is dropped from the university's rolls (with a one-time chance to seek readmission during the degree program); a CGPA between 1.7 and 2.0 places the student on probation, to be cleared by reaching 2.0 or above the following semester. A student may be placed on probation a maximum of two times in a 16-year degree program, and a second probation within the first four semesters results in removal from the rolls (with a one-time readmission option).

For MPhil and PhD students (Fall 2019 onwards), the minimum qualifying CGPA is 2.50 and 3.00 respectively. A GPA between 1.75 and the qualifying CGPA places the student on probation; a GPA below 1.75 in any semester means the student is dropped from the university's rolls.

Minimum CGPA to graduate from FJWU

FJWU requires a minimum CGPA of 2.0 for Undergraduate and Master's degree completion, 2.50 for MPhil, and 3.00 for PhD.

HEC-extended facilitation for final-semester students: a student who secures less than 2.00 CGPA (16-year degree programs) or 2.50 CGPA (MS/MPhil) at the end of her final semester may seek re-admission in one or more courses graded below C, alongside the forthcoming semester — provided she is not debarred under the CGPA-improvement regulation and remains within the program's specified time duration.

Medals and academic honors at FJWU

FJWU awards session medals based on CGPA rank rather than a fixed cut-off alone:

  • Gold Medal — highest CGPA in the session.
  • Silver Medal — second-highest CGPA in the session.

To qualify, a student must obtain a CGPA of 3.0 or above, have no probation, conduct-probation, or disciplinary record during the academic session, and have passed every course on the first attempt — a student who repeated a course to pass an F or improve a D is not eligible for distinction. The student must also have completed all degree requirements within the minimum prescribed period. Ties are broken by percentage of marks obtained. Each discipline needs a minimum graduating class of ten (for 16-year/4-year degrees) or five (for MS/MPhil) for a medal to be awarded at all.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at FJWU?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at FJWU?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
What CGPA do you need to graduate from FJWU?

You need a minimum CGPA of 2.0 to graduate from an FJWU Undergraduate or Master's program, 2.50 for MPhil, and 3.00 for PhD.

MPhil and PhD students are placed on probation between 1.75 and their qualifying CGPA (2.50/3.00), and dropped if their GPA falls below 1.75 in any semester.
