Navarro College GPA Calculator

Grading criteria for certain programs, including those in the health professions, may differ from the standard scale. Grading criteria for such courses or programs may be located in the course syllabus and/or program handbook.

Grade points for a course are found by multiplying the course's semester-hour value by the grade's point value; for example, a "B" in a three-semester-hour course earns nine grade points. The cumulative grade-point average is the total grade points earned divided by the total semester hours attempted.

Courses graded "W" (Withdrawn) or "P" (Pass) are not included in hours attempted. Grades from developmental studies coursework count toward the GPA for athletic eligibility, academic suspension, and financial aid eligibility, but are excluded from the GPA used for graduation.

If a student repeats a course with a lower grade at Navarro College, only the higher grade counts toward the cumulative grade-point average.

A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better on a 4.0 scale is the minimum standard of work at Navarro College. Good standing is awarded to students maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher who complete at least one course each semester or session of enrollment.

Failure to maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA results in Academic Probation for the next semester enrolled; a student returns to good standing by bringing the cumulative GPA back to 2.0 or better.

A student who earns less than a 2.0 GPA for two semesters of enrollment, and less than a 1.5 GPA in the most current semester, is placed on Academic Suspension for one regular semester (fall or spring).

A cumulative grade-point average of 2.0 or better on a 4.0 scale is required to graduate from any degree or certificate program at Navarro College. Some programs with special admission requirements may set more stringent GPA requirements.

• Summa Cum Laude — 4.0 cumulative GPA on all work attempted at Navarro College and any other post-secondary institutions, with no grade lower than "A"
• Magna Cum Laude — 3.5 cumulative GPA, with no grade lower than "C"
• Cum Laude — 3.25 cumulative GPA, with no grade lower than "C"

Each honors level is denoted on the transcript. Only students who fulfill all graduation requirements before the ceremony are eligible for these designations.

Navarro College does not calculate grade points earned at other institutions as part of a student's GPA at graduation, except when considering graduation with honors, where the cumulative GPA is figured on all work attempted at Navarro College and any other post-secondary institutions.
