How GPA and CGPA Are Calculated
Semester GPA is calculated as the credit-weighted average of the grade points earned in that semester's courses: GPA = Σ(grade point × credit) ÷ Σ(credit). CGPA is the credit-weighted average of a student's semester GPAs across all completed semesters.
Total marks for each course are compiled in round figures before conversion to a letter grade -- a fraction of 0.5 or above is rounded up to the next whole mark.

Promotion, Conditional Pass, and F-Removal Rules
A student passes a semester with a minimum GPA of 2.000 and CGPA of 2.250 and no F grade (in the first semester, a minimum GPA of 2.000 alone is required). A student is conditionally passed if they reach the same minimum GPA/CGPA with an F grade in up to 50% of that semester's courses (this rule applies up to, but not including, the final semester).
Conditionally passed students must sit an F-removal examination held 15-30 days after semester results are published, covering all F-graded courses; a student with at most 2 retained F grades after that exam is promoted. Final-semester students get up to 2 months after their last results to clear all outstanding F grades.
Grade D is the minimum passing grade for a course. Absence from the semester final exam in a course results in an F grade for that course. The maximum time to complete a degree is 7 academic years (14 semesters) from first admission. A student expelled twice for adopting unfair means in an examination is permanently debarred from re-admission.

Degree Credit and Duration Requirements
An undergraduate degree at PSTU requires 129 or more credits, depending on the respective faculty's approved curriculum. The regular duration of study is 4 academic years (8 semesters); the maximum admissible time limit is 7 years (14 semesters), beyond which the study ends unsuccessfully.

Dean's Merit List and Awards
Students who obtain a GPA of 3.75 or more in both semesters of the same academic year (level) are included in the Dean's Merit List, published every year, and receive special merit scholarships tenable for twelve months. Academic awards may also be given for superior overall performance. A student with any "repeat" result on record is not eligible for a merit award.
