Grade symbols beyond A-F

Alongside the standard letter grades, Athens Technical College uses several non-GPA symbols. Learning support course grades carry an asterisk (A*-F*) and count toward attempted hours but are excluded from grade point average calculations. AU marks an audited, non-credit-seeking enrollment. I (Incomplete) and IP (In Progress) mark unfinished coursework and are not calculated into the GPA. W (Withdrawal) marks an official withdrawal before 61% of the term has elapsed and does not affect the GPA. Transfer credit is recorded as TR/TRA/TRB/TRC/TRP/TRM and is likewise excluded from semester, cumulative, and graduation GPA calculations.

How GPA is calculated

Athens Technical College calculates a grade point average by multiplying each course's credit hours by the points earned for its grade, adding those points across all courses, and dividing the total by the total credit hours attempted. The college tracks three separate GPAs: the semester GPA (the current term only), the cumulative GPA (all attempts at Athens Technical College, recalculated each semester), and the graduation GPA (only courses required for the program, using the highest grade earned when a course is repeated). None of the three include credits from other colleges, learning support courses, or credit-by-examination.

Academic probation and dismissal

A student is placed on academic probation after failing to earn a minimum 2.0 grade point average on all academic credit work attempted in a semester. To return to good standing, a student on probation must earn at least a 2.0 GPA in the next semester of enrollment; failing that results in academic dismissal. Students transferring in while on probation elsewhere are admitted on probation and must clear it in their first semester. A student dismissed for the first time may not enroll for the following semester; the required break lengthens with each subsequent dismissal (two consecutive semesters for a second dismissal, three for a third, and so on), and readmission requires an application and committee approval.

Minimum GPA to graduate

Students must earn a minimum 2.0 graduation grade point average, regardless of academic standing, in order to graduate from Athens Technical College. The graduation GPA counts only courses required for the program, using the highest grade earned when a course was repeated.

President's List and Dean's List

Athens Technical College recognizes academic excellence each semester through two honor lists for students enrolled in 12 or more semester credit hours. The President's List recognizes a semester GPA of 4.0. The Dean's List recognizes a semester GPA between 3.5 and 3.9.

Transfer credit policy

Transfer credit decisions rest with the Director of Registration and Records together with instructional faculty and division deans in the relevant discipline, who weigh the educational quality, comparability, and applicability of the prior coursework. Only courses from regionally accredited institutions are eligible, with a final grade equivalent to C or better required for the course to be transferable. Athens Technical College does not award transfer credit for credit-by-examination taken at other institutions, and coursework taken on the quarter system is converted to semester credit hours by multiplying quarter hours by 0.6667.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at Athens Technical College?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at Athens Technical College?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Athens Technical College GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
