How SGPA and CGPA are calculated

The Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) is the total grade points earned per credit hour divided by the total credit hours attempted in that semester. The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is the same calculation across all courses taken at the University; grades from courses transferred from other institutions are not used in the CGPA.

  • "NP" (Pass, Pass/Fail-based courses or transferred courses) receives no grade points and does not affect the GPA.
  • "IP", "IC", and "AF" receive no grade points and do not affect the CGPA, but the attempted credits count against the completion-rate requirement until a grade is assigned.
  • "NF" and "W" bear no grade points and do not affect the CGPA.
  • When a course is repeated, only the highest grade earned counts toward the GPA; the earlier grade remains on the transcript.

Academic standing, honor list, probation, and dismissal

A student is in good academic standing while her CGPA is 2.75 or higher, the same minimum required for graduation.

President's Honor List: awarded for two consecutive fall/spring semesters in which a student completed at least 15 SCH (excluding Pass/Fail courses), achieved an SGPA of 4.85 or higher, and received no grade of "F", "NF", "DN", or "IC".

Academic probation: imposed when CGPA falls below 2.75. While on probation a student registers for only 11-13 SCH per semester and must repeat failed major/general requirement courses (an advisor may also require repeating "D"/"D+" courses). Probation cannot continue beyond three consecutive semesters.

Academic dismissal: follows failure to show satisfactory progress by the end of the third probationary semester, or when satisfactory progress becomes mathematically impossible within the Maximum Time Frame. Dismissed students may appeal to the Dean of Students with evidence of exceptional circumstances; a successful appeal places the student back on probation for the following semester.

Graduation requirements and academic status

Graduation requires a completed graduation application, a minimum CGPA of 2.75, graduation within the Maximum Time Frame, and successful completion of all courses/credit hours in the Program of Study. Students below a 2.75 CGPA must repeat "D"/"D+" courses to raise it before graduating.

Graduation Academic Status is awarded by CGPA: Excellent 4.50-5.00, Very Good 3.75-4.49, Good 2.75-3.74.

Graduation with honours

Graduation honors are awarded only to students with a CGPA between 4.25 and 5.00 who never earned a grade of "F", "NF", or "DN" during their studies:

  • Excellent with First Honor: 4.75-5.00
  • Excellent with Second Honor: 4.50-4.74
  • Very Good with Second Honor: 4.25-4.49

Transfer credit and GPA

Grades earned in courses transferred from other higher-education institutions are not used in calculating the CGPA at Dar Al-Hekma University. Such courses are instead recorded with a grade of "NP", which carries no grade points.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at DAH?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at DAH?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Dar Al-Hekma University (DAH) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
