How grading works at Islamic University of Madinah
Islamic University of Madinah (IUM) grades on a 1.00–5.00 grade-point scale. Your percentage in a course falls into a fixed whole-number band, and each band carries a single fixed grade weight — the value depends only on which band your percentage falls in, not on your exact mark inside it. The full band-to-weight mapping is shown in the Grade Scale Reference above.
Bands are printed as "{low} to less than {high}" — for example, 90 to less than 95 is grade A — so each whole percentage point belongs to exactly one band, from 0 up to 100.
The scale tops out at 5.00 (grade A+, for 95–100%); the lowest grade, F, is worth 1.00 rather than 0.00 — IUM's guide does not use a zero floor. This grading table is set out in IUM's own university-wide undergraduate student guide, issued by the Deanship of Admissions & Registration, and applies to every course across the university, including its religious colleges.

What counts toward your GPA at IUM
Not every mark on an IUM transcript carries grade-point weight. A Denial (DN) grade — given when a student is barred from a course's final exam for attendance below 75%, or for an unexcused absence — carries the same 1.00 weight as an F, effectively treating it as a forced fail for GPA purposes.
Several other statuses carry no grade-point weight at all and are excluded from the cumulative GPA calculation: In-Progress (IP) and In-Complete (IC) courses, Nograde-Pass (NP) and Nograde-Fail (NF) results, Withdrawn (W) courses, and Exempted (E) courses — IUM's guide states exemptions explicitly are "not included in the cumulative GPA calculation."

Minimum GPA to graduate from IUM
To graduate, a bachelor's student at Islamic University of Madinah must hold a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 out of 5.00, university-wide. This applies across all of IUM's undergraduate programs — it is not limited to a single college or major.
This floor is higher than the general baseline some other Saudi universities publish (2.00 out of 5.00); IUM's own guide sets 2.75 as the graduation minimum for every bachelor's student, not only for a specific college.

Graduation honors classification at IUM
IUM classifies graduating cumulative GPAs into four bands: Excellent (ممتاز) at 4.50 and above, Very Good (جيد جدًا) from 3.75 up to but not including 4.50, Good (جيد) from 2.75 up to but not including 3.75, and Pass (مقبول) from 2.00 up to but not including 2.75 — all on the 5.00-point scale.
Above the general classification, IUM also awards graduation honors: First-class honors for a cumulative GPA of 4.75–5.00, and Second-class honors for 4.25 up to but not including 4.75.

Does an F lower my GPA to 0.00 at IUM?
No. On IUM's 1.00–5.00 grade-point scale, an F (below 60% in a course) is worth 1.00 grade point, not 0.00 — IUM does not use a zero floor. The lowest grade above F is D, worth 2.00, awarded for 60% up to but not including 65%. See the Grade Scale Reference on this page for the full band-to-weight mapping.

What happens if I'm barred from a final exam (DN) at IUM?
A Denial (DN) grade is recorded when a student is barred from sitting a course's final exam — for attendance below 75%, or for an unexcused absence. DN carries the same 1.00 grade-point weight as an F, so it counts toward your cumulative GPA the same way a fail would.
