Administrative grade statuses at Qassim University

Beyond the standard letter grades, QU's regulations define several administrative statuses that carry no grade-point value and are not counted toward the GPA: IP (In-Progress), IC (Incomplete), NP (No-grade Pass), NF (No-grade Fail), W (Withdrawn with an accepted excuse), and E (Exemption).

A separate status, DN (Denied), is assigned when a student is barred from the final exam for excessive absence — more than 25% of a course's contact hours without an accepted excuse. A student denied exam entry is recorded as having failed the course, at the same point weight as an F grade. A college council (or its delegate) may lift the denial and admit the student to the final exam if the student provides an accepted excuse and their attendance was not below 50%.

How Qassim University classifies a graduate's overall CGPA

At graduation, Qassim University assigns a descriptive overall classification based on the student's cumulative GPA, on the 5.00 scale QU has adopted: Excellent (4.50-5.00), Very Good (3.75 to below 4.50), Good (2.75 to below 3.75), and Pass (2.00 to below 2.75).

Academic warning and dismissal at Qassim University

A student is issued an academic warning whenever their cumulative GPA falls below 2.00 out of 5.00, recorded on their academic file. In semester-based programs, three consecutive warnings lead to academic dismissal, though the college council may grant a fourth chance if the student can still raise their CGPA back to 2.00 or above. In year-based programs, a second consecutive warning leads to dismissal, with the college council able to grant a third chance under the same condition.

A student can also be dismissed for exceeding the maximum study duration — the program's standard length plus half again — without completing graduation requirements. In either case, the University Council (or its delegate) may grant one further exceptional year.

Minimum CGPA to graduate from Qassim University

A student graduates only after completing all graduation requirements with a cumulative GPA no lower than the threshold the University Council sets for their major — but never below the "Pass" grade, 2.00 out of 5.00. Graduation is dated to the day the CGPA is calculated, per the academic calendar.

Honors distinction at Qassim University

Qassim University awards two levels of honors distinction at graduation, based on cumulative GPA on the university's 5.00 scale: First Honors requires a CGPA of 4.75 to 5.00; Second Honors requires 4.25 to below 4.75.

Either honor also requires the student to have never failed a course — at QU or at another university, including as a visiting or transferred student — to have completed graduation requirements within the average of their college's minimum and maximum allowed study duration, and to have completed at least 60% of graduation requirements at QU itself.

Transferring into or within Qassim University

A student transferring into QU from another university needs a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 out of 5.00 (or its equivalent), must not have been dismissed from their previous institution for disciplinary reasons, and needs the destination college dean's approval. A student later found to have been dismissed elsewhere for disciplinary reasons has their QU registration voided from the date it was accepted.

Course credit from outside QU can be equated toward a program if its content matches at least 60% of the QU course it replaces (colleges may require a higher match), the equated units make up no more than 40% of the destination program's total units, and the outside course carries at least as many units as its QU equivalent. Equated courses appear on the transcript with the grade earned, but are not counted toward the CGPA. Internal transfer between QU colleges, departments or majors is allowed only once during a student's studies, and requires the destination dean's approval.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at QU?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at QU?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Qassim University (QU) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
What GPA does Qassim University require to graduate?

A cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 out of 5.00 (the "Pass" grade) — QU's University Council can set a higher floor for individual majors, but never lower than Pass.

What CGPA does Qassim University require for First or Second Honors?

First Honors requires a CGPA of 4.75-5.00 (out of 5.00); Second Honors requires 4.25 to below 4.75. Both also require never having failed a course and completing at least 60% of graduation requirements at QU itself.

What happens if my CGPA falls below 2.00 at Qassim University?

You receive an academic warning. In semester-based programs, three consecutive warnings lead to dismissal (a fourth chance is possible if your CGPA can still reach 2.00); in year-based programs, dismissal follows a second consecutive warning (a third chance is possible under the same condition).

Can I transfer credit into Qassim University from another institution?

Yes, if your cumulative GPA is at least 2.00/5.00, you weren't dismissed from your previous institution for disciplinary reasons, and the destination college dean approves. Equated course credit appears on your transcript but is not counted toward your QU CGPA.
