King Saud University (KSU) GPA Calculator

King Saud University grades each course on a nine-level scale from A+ to F, with grade points running from 1.00 to 5.00 on the university's adopted column of the Council of University Affairs' shared national grading table. Coursework, final-exam, and total scores are recorded as whole numbers (rounded up) and grades are calculated automatically.

Beyond the scored letter grades, KSU's academic record also uses several special codes that carry no marks-based grade point: In-Progress (IP) and Incomplete (IC) for unfinished multi-term or delayed coursework, Withdrawn (W) and Exemption (E), and Audit (AU) for non-credit attendance. Two further administrative codes carry a fixed point value without a marks band: Denial (DN), assigned when a student is barred from the final exam for attendance below 75% and treated as a fail, and D2, a full-year-program-only code marking a passed second-round retake exam in place of an earlier fail.

Both the semester GPA and the cumulative GPA are calculated the same way: total quality points (each course's grade points multiplied by its credit hours) divided by total credit hours attempted.

• Repeating a course: a student may retake any course where the final grade was below "Good" (C), within two semesters of earning that grade (one year for annual-system students), capped at three courses or 12 credit hours overall. Both attempts' grades are recorded and counted in the semester and cumulative GPA — retaking a course does not remove the earlier grade from the average.
• Repeated failure: if a student fails a required course four or more times, the college council may allow substituting an equal-hours free elective instead, capped at two such substitutions.
• Raising the GPA near graduation: a student who has otherwise finished their program but hasn't reached the graduation GPA floor may be assigned up to 12 additional credit hours by the college council specifically to raise their cumulative GPA.

A student is dismissed from KSU after receiving two consecutive academic warnings for a cumulative GPA below the minimum required for their specialization, unless the college dean allows them to continue where reaching that minimum is mathematically achievable within their remaining coursework.

A student is also subject to dismissal for not completing graduation requirements within one and a half times the program's standard duration; the dean may grant an extension of up to double the standard duration if the student's GPA improved over their last two semesters. Exceptional one-time re-admission chances (of up to one year) are available at the Academic Council's discretion for students dismissed on either ground.

The minimum cumulative GPA required to graduate is set by the Academic Council for each specialization, but is never below grade "Pass" — 2.00 out of 5.00. Colleges of Engineering, Computer & Information Sciences, Applied Engineering, and Applied Computer Science require a higher floor of 2.75 out of 5.00.

The overall degree classification recorded on a graduate's record follows the cumulative GPA: Excellent (4.50 and above), Very Good (3.75 up to 4.50), Good (2.75 up to 3.75), or Pass (2.00 up to 2.75).

KSU grants First-Class Honors to bachelor's graduates with a cumulative GPA from 4.75 to 5.00, and Second-Class Honors for a cumulative GPA from 4.25 up to (but less than) 4.75. Both require the student to have never failed a course — at KSU or any other university — to have completed their program within no more than the average of their program's minimum and maximum allowed duration, and to have completed at least 60% of graduation requirements at KSU itself.

Separately, the Academic Council sets its own nomination criteria for a per-term Dean's List, noted on the student's academic record, and runs an Academic Excellence Program offering added educational and leadership opportunities to top-performing students.

Courses completed at another recognized institution (on the Ministry of Education's classified list) can be equated to a KSU course if the KSU-side course is of equal or higher level, the credit was earned within the last five years, and the student's grade in it was at least "Good" (C) or higher. Equated credit is capped at 40% of KSU's graduation credit hours and is recorded on the transcript but excluded from the cumulative GPA.

Credit earned while visiting another institution as a KSU student follows the same "Good" grade minimum and GPA exclusion, capped at 30% of graduation units. By contrast, when a student transfers between KSU's own colleges, departments, or majors, their prior KSU grades carry over and remain counted in the cumulative GPA.
