King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) GPA Calculator

KAUST uses a 4.00-point letter scale; these are the only grades assigned for coursework. Individual courses require a minimum grade of B- to count for credit. Six additional marks carry no GPA weight: I (Incomplete), IP (In progress), W (Withdrew), S (Satisfactory/Pass), U (Unsatisfactory/Fail), and WF (Withdrew-failed).

A course graded C+ or lower may be repeated, normally limited to one course. If the repeat grade is higher, the original grade may be excluded from the GPA calculation with the Dean's prior approval, though it remains on the official transcript. Any academic sanction stays in effect until the course has been successfully repeated.

Students are expected to maintain a cumulative GPA between 3.00 and 4.00. A cumulative GPA of 2.33-2.99 places a student on Academic Probation; below 2.33 leads to Academic Dismissal. Three cumulative U/F grades (credit, non-credit, or ESL courses; audit grades excluded) also trigger Academic Dismissal, as does missing degree-milestone deadlines such as the qualifying examination, proposal defense, thesis/dissertation, final defense, or archiving.

Graduation occurs in one of two annual cycles (Commencement or the Spring Graduation Recognition), whichever a student completes their degree requirements in, including MS students within an MS/PhD track. Students must submit a graduation application by the last day to add/drop courses for that cycle; missing the deadline delays graduation to the next semester and may affect participation in the commencement ceremony. Diplomas are issued on or after the official graduation date.

Master's students may request transfer credit from another university, subject to approval by the Academic Advisor, Program Chair, and the Office of the Registrar; courses already applied to another degree don't qualify. Up to three graduate-level courses (maximum 9 credits) may be approved, each graded B or higher and completed within three years of KAUST admission. Students must submit a transfer-credit form, a course syllabus, and an official transcript no more than three months old (with a certified English translation if needed). Doctoral transfers from other PhD programs are evaluated case by case for dissertation and coursework credit.
