Shaqra University (SU) GPA Calculator

Shaqra University grades each course on a nine-level scale from A+ to F, with grade points running from 1.00 to 5.00 on the university's adopted column of the Council of University Affairs' shared national grading table.

Beyond the scored letter grades, the academic record also uses several special codes that carry no marks-based grade point: In-Progress (IP) for multi-term research courses and Incomplete (IC) for coursework a student is allowed to finish the following term, Withdrawn (W) and Exemption (E), and the non-graded Pass/Fail (NP/NF) codes. A further administrative code carries a fixed point value without a marks band: Denied (DN), assigned when a student is barred from the final exam for attendance below 75% of a course's contact hours (85% at colleges running the full academic-year system) and treated as a fail.

A student who has passed all their required courses but whose cumulative GPA still falls below the graduation floor may be assigned additional, appropriate courses by the college council (on the department council's recommendation) specifically to raise their cumulative GPA. These extra courses count toward the cumulative GPA only if the student passes them.

An Incomplete (IC) grade is excluded from the GPA while pending; if the completion deadline lapses without the coursework being finished, it converts to an F and is then counted.

A student is dismissed from the university after receiving three consecutive academic warnings for a cumulative GPA below the graduation floor for their college: 2.75 out of 5.00 for Engineering and Computer/Applied-Computer colleges, 2.5 out of 5.00 for Health colleges, and 2.00 out of 5.00 for all other colleges.

The college or university council (or its delegate) may grant up to three additional opportunities to raise the GPA instead, capped at 20 extra credit units when granting the third. A student dismissed while in an applied college may request one further opportunity within two semesters of the failing semester. Summer semesters don't count toward the consecutive-warning total.

The minimum cumulative GPA required to graduate is never below grade "Pass" — 2.00 out of 5.00 — but is raised to 2.75 out of 5.00 for Engineering and Computer/Applied-Computer colleges, and to 2.5 out of 5.00 for Health colleges.

The overall degree classification recorded on a graduate's record follows the cumulative GPA: Excellent (4.50 and above), Very Good (3.75 up to 4.50), Good (2.75 up to 3.75), or Pass (2.00 up to 2.75), all out of 5.00.

Shaqra grants First Honors to graduates with a cumulative GPA from 4.75 to 5.00, and Second Honors for a cumulative GPA from 4.25 up to (but less than) 4.75. Both require the student to have never failed a course — at Shaqra or any other university, including as a visiting or transferred-in student — to have completed their program within no more than the average of their college's minimum and maximum allowed duration, and to have completed at least 60% of graduation requirements at Shaqra itself. A student who received a disciplinary penalty during their studies is ineligible for either honor, even if the penalty was later lifted, unless they were proven innocent by the competent disciplinary council's investigation.

Courses completed at another institution can be equated to a Shaqra course if their content is at least 70% similar, but this credit is recorded on the transcript and excluded from the cumulative GPA; a student must still complete at least 60% of their study plan's credit units at Shaqra itself.

By contrast, a student transferring within the university — between colleges, departments, or majors — needs a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 out of 5.00 at the time of transfer, and any courses equated toward the new major (again on the same 70%-content-similarity standard) do count toward the cumulative GPA. Course exemptions granted for any reason are capped at 25% of the study plan's total credit units.
