Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education (DIHE) GPA Calculator

DIHE runs a semester system of continuous assessment, and its Examination Rules & Regulations set out a single institute-wide grading scale that maps a course's percentage of marks to a letter grade and a grade point on a 0.0–4.0 scale. The exact bands and points are shown in the Grade Scale Reference on this page.

The scheme awards six grade-bearing letters — A+, A, B, C, D and F. D is the minimum passing grade at 50%; anything below 50% is F and carries no credit. Two administrative grades sit outside the GPA: I (Incomplete) for a course you could not finish for reasons beyond your control, and W (Withdrawal) for a course dropped up to four weeks before the final term examination. Neither carries a grade point.

Your grade in each course is based on continuous assessment across the semester rather than a single final paper, so class work, mid-terms and the final examination all count. Grades combine into a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) that the institute uses as the single measure of academic progress.

To sit a course's examination you must have attended at least 75% of that course's lectures, demonstrations, tutorials and practicals. Percentage (numerical) marks are not printed on the transcript — only the letter grades from the Grade Scale Reference on this page appear.

DIHE sets a CGPA floor for good standing that differs by level: an undergraduate student must maintain a CGPA of 2.0 and a graduate student a CGPA of 2.2 in each semester.

• Fall below that floor and you are placed on probation, which continues for a maximum of two subsequent semesters while you work back to the required CGPA.
• If you still have not reached the required CGPA after probation, you are removed from the institute's rolls.
• Being unable to maintain the required CGPA for three consecutive semesters makes you liable to de-registration, unless compelling circumstances are accepted by the Rector.
• While below the floor you must repeat courses, except those in which you already earned a passing grade.

A student de-registered for unsatisfactory performance is not accepted for re-registration.

A degree is not awarded to any student who fails to maintain a CGPA of 2.5. After completing all required courses with that CGPA within the time allowed by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), students must also appear in and pass a Comprehensive Examination / Viva Voce. Students who do not pass it are not eligible for their final transcript, marks sheet or degree.

Courses for which a transferring student receives an exemption, having transferred from an HEC-recognised institute or university, are shown on the DIHE transcript with a TR letter. Each transferred course is marked with an asterisk (*), with an explanatory note at the foot of the transcript.
