University of Sindh GPA Calculator

University of Sindh uses an Absolute Grading System as its official marking system, though the university does encourage teachers to adopt HEC's suggested Relative Grading System where they choose to.

The current scale — the Fractionalized Grading Policy — applies to all programmes under the semester system for students admitted from Academic Year 2021 (2K21-Batch) and onwards. It runs across nine grade bands from A+ down to F, split into three status groups: A+ through C are "Pass Grades", D+ and D are "Improved Grades", and F is "Fail".

Students admitted in the 2K20 batch or earlier are governed by a separate, older grading table that this calculator does not cover — if you were admitted before 2021, check with your department which table applies to your result.

University of Sindh reports a semester Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) and a Cumulative Grade Point Average (C.G.P.A.), both on a 0.00–4.00 scale. Both are credit-hour weighted, built from an intermediate figure called the Quality Point:

• Quality Point (Q.P.) = Grade Point earned × Credit Hours of that course. (The university's own worked example: a "B" grade, worth 3.2 grade points, in a 3-credit-hour course gives Q.P. = 3.2 × 3 = 9.60.)
• G.P.A. = sum of Quality Points for all courses in a semester ÷ sum of Credit Hours offered that semester.
• C.G.P.A. = sum of Quality Points for every course appeared in across all semesters ÷ sum of Credit Hours for all semesters appeared in.

Promotion between semesters. Promotion from the 1st to 2nd, 3rd to 4th, and 5th to 6th semester is automatic, subject to meeting minimum attendance for that semester. Promotion from the 2nd to 3rd semester additionally requires a G.P.A. of 1.75 or above in the preceding two semesters. Falling short of attendance requirements costs a student 10% of their grades in that semester (announced by each instructor at the semester's start).

Conditional promotion / probation. A student with less than 1.75 C.G.P.A. across the preceding two semesters (1st & 2nd, or 3rd & 4th) is promoted to the next semester (3rd or 5th) only conditionally, on probation. If they then fail to clear their failing courses by the end of that semester, their admission is cancelled, and they may not enrol in any class for at least one more semester.

Repeating or improving a course. A student who fails a course, or is awarded a "D" grade, may reappear in or improve that course at the immediate next session it is offered. Only one improvement attempt is allowed per course from a previous semester. A student who has already passed their final degree with a "D" grade may be granted one additional chance to improve courses from their final year only.

Pass/fail elective courses (undergraduate). Certain elective courses may be taken on a pass/fail basis, up to a maximum of 9 credit hours at the undergraduate level; the grade awarded for these courses is not counted toward GPA or CGPA.

Cancellation of enrolment. Missing all lectures during the first four weeks of a semester automatically cancels a student's admission, with no notification required. The same cancellation applies to a conditionally-promoted (probationary) student who fails to qualify their failing courses by the semester's end.

The minimum qualifying CGPA to complete a degree is 2.00 for undergraduate programmes (BA/BS/MSc) and 2.50 for postgraduate programmes (MS/MPhil/PhD). A student below the required CGPA at the end of their final semester may seek re-admission or improve one or more courses graded below C, provided they are not debarred under the CGPA Improvement Regulation and remain within their programme's time limit.

Degree completion also requires a minimum number of credit hours earned from the institution itself: 60 credit hours (out of a 124–140 credit-hour undergraduate programme) for undergraduate students, and 15 credit hours for MS/MPhil students.

Separately, every degree programme has a fixed completion window (the Terms-Lapse Policy, effective for students admitted from 2K22-Batch onwards), after which a student's terms lapse if the degree isn't finished:

Credits transfer on a course-to-course basis: a course taken at another university (University X) transfers to University of Sindh only if it is equivalent to a course University of Sindh itself teaches (University Y).

• No credit hour transfers if the grade earned was below C for undergraduate courses or below B for graduate courses.
• Credit hours may only be transferred between duly recognized HEIs and internationally recognized universities, as recommended by HEC.
• The university may also enrol students for a single semester or single class and issue a transcript for completed courses, at its discretion.
• The final transfer decision rests with the Departmental Committee.
