How your GPA is calculated at Los Medanos College

GPA is calculated from units attempted with a letter grade of A, B, C, D, or F. "Units enrolled" additionally include W, I, P, and NP for progress tracking, but P and NP do not affect the GPA. Non-degree-applicable course grades are not included in calculating the GPA for a degree.

When a course is repeated to alleviate a substandard grade (D, F, or NC/NP), the previous grade is disregarded when computing the GPA — though it stays on the transcript with a notation that the course was repeated. An approved Academic Renewal similarly removes substandard (D, F, NC/NP) units from the cumulative GPA without deleting them from the record.

Academic Alert and Dismissal at Los Medanos College

Students are placed on Academic Alert when cumulative GPA falls under 2.0 with 12 or more cumulative units attempted, and are removed once cumulative GPA reaches 2.0 or better. Academic Dismissal follows three consecutive semesters of Academic Alert, unless the most recent semester's GPA is 2.0 or higher.

Reinstatement after Alert II or Dismissal status requires, among other steps, earning a minimum term GPA of 2.0 or better with no grade below C (including NP, I, or W).

Dean's List and graduation honors at Los Medanos College

Full-time students achieving a term GPA of 3.0 or better in 12 or more graded units in a fall or spring term are named to the Dean's List for that term (not offered in summer); students approved for a Reduced Course Load of 6 or more graded units qualify the same way.

Graduation with Honors is recognized for an overall GPA of 3.5 or better across all coursework applied to the degree at the time of graduation, noted on the student's record, diploma, and graduation program.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at LMC?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at LMC?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Los Medanos College (LMC) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
Does Los Medanos College use plus/minus grading (A+, A-, B+, etc.)?

No. The catalog's Evaluative Symbols/Grading Scale lists only whole letter grades — A, B, C, D, and F — with no plus or minus modifiers.

Does a P/NP (Pass/No Pass) grade affect my GPA at Los Medanos College?

No. An NP (No Pass) grade is explicitly excluded from the GPA, and the catalog's "Units Attempted" definition for GPA calculation counts only A, B, C, D, and F — P and NP grades are tracked for progress, not GPA.
