Repeating a course in which a substandard grade (D, F, FW, NP, or NC) was recorded is permitted; when a course is repeated, only the highest grade earned is used in the cumulative GPA. Courses with a satisfactory grade (A, B, C, CR, or P) may be repeated only for extenuating circumstances, legally mandated training, licensure changes, or a significant lapse of time of at least 36 months, with written approval.

Through Academic Renewal, up to 30 semester units of previously completed coursework may be disregarded from the cumulative GPA to support transfer, degree completion, or removal from academic probation. Academic Renewal is irreversible and cannot be used toward federal financial-aid Satisfactory Academic Progress.

A student is placed on academic probation after attempting at least 12 semester units in the Los Angeles Community College District with a cumulative grade point average below 2.0. A student is placed on progress probation after enrolling in at least 12 semester units with entries of "W", "I", or "NP" in 50% or more of units attempted.

A student is removed from academic probation once the cumulative GPA reaches 2.0 or higher (including through course repetition or Academic Renewal), and from progress probation once the percentage of "W"/"I"/"NP" entries drops below 50%. Continued probation can lead to dismissal and loss of the California Promise Grant.

A cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 ("C" average) in all degree-applicable coursework is required for local Associate Degrees and for Associate Degrees for Transfer, including any external degree-applicable coursework counted toward the degree.

Students are placed on the LACCD Dean's Honor List with a 3.5 GPA or higher in the qualifying semester (12 or more graded units completed that semester for full-time students, or 12 or more cumulative graded units completed in the LACCD for part-time students); students who make the Dean's Honor List for three or more consecutive semesters are placed on the President's Honor List.

Graduation honors are based on cumulative GPA in degree-applicable LACCD coursework: Summa Cum Laude requires 3.9 or higher (with a minimum of 24 units completed), Magna Cum Laude requires 3.7 or higher, and Cum Laude requires 3.5 or higher.

Units earned on a "pass-no pass" or "credit/no credit" basis at another institution accredited by ACCJC, HLC, MSCHE, NEASC-CIHE, NWCCU, SACSCOC, or WSCUC may be applied toward degree and credit certificate requirements, though such units are not used to calculate the cumulative GPA.
