How grading works at WGTC
West Georgia Technical College grades credit courses on a letter scale of A, B, C, D, and F, each carrying grade points of 4, 3, 2, 1, and 0. These correspond to printed score ranges of 90-100 (A, Excellent), 80-89 (B, Good), 70-79 (C, Satisfactory), 60-69 (D), and below 60 (F, Failing).
A WF (Withdrew Failing) grade also carries 0 grade points, the same as F. Grades of I (Incomplete), NG (No Grade), AU (Audit), EX (Credit by Competency Exam), TR (Transfer Credit), W (Withdrew), and AC (Articulated Credit) are not computed in the GPA.
Courses numbered below 1000 (Learning Support) use a separate A*–F* scale that is never computed into a student's institutional GPA.

How your GPA is calculated at WGTC
Your grade point average (GPA) is calculated by multiplying the credits for each eligible course by the grade points earned, totaling those points across all eligible courses, and dividing by the total credits attempted in eligible courses.
Only courses numbered 1000 and above are eligible; courses numbered 0-0999 (Learning Support) are excluded from the GPA calculation entirely.

Academic standing, probation, and overload at WGTC
You're placed on academic probation if your cumulative GPA at the end of a semester falls below 2.0. While on probation, you must earn at least a 2.0 GPA the following term to be removed from probation; failing to do so leads to academic suspension. After a suspension, re-admission is possible after one full term, with the returning student placed back on probation for their first semester back.
To register for more than 18 credit hours in a semester (an overload), a student must generally have attended WGTC for at least two semesters and have an overall GPA of at least 2.5, plus the Dean's approval.

GPA requirement to graduate from WGTC
An overall GPA of 2.0 or better is required before graduation can occur. The graduation GPA is calculated only on the courses required for the student's program; when a course is taken more than once, only the final attempt counts toward it.

Frequently asked questions
What grading scheme does West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) use?
Where does this WGTC grade scale come from?
Does a WF (Withdrew Failing) grade affect my GPA at WGTC?
Yes. WF carries 0 grade points, the same as F, and the catalog states directly that it "has zero quality points and is calculated in the grade point average (GPA)." A plain W (Withdrew, before the withdrawal deadline) is not computed in the GPA.
