Aurora College grades most courses on a 4-point scale paired with a letter grade, running from A+ (4.0) down to F (0.0). The college's Grading of Courses Procedure (C.25.1) actually prints two parallel grading tables depending on the program: a “Base Programming” table for its general diploma and certificate slate (Office Administration, Business Administration, Environment and Natural Resources Technology Diploma, Early Learning and Childcare Diploma, Practical Nurse Diploma, Personal Support Worker Certificate, and Introduction to the Mining Industry), and a separate “Partnership Programming” table for programs delivered jointly with outside partners (e.g., the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Heavy Equipment Operator, and apprenticeship programs), which uses a slightly different point ladder and program-specific percentage pass thresholds.

Under Base Programming, the minimum passing grade is a D (1.0 grade points); anything below that is an F (0.0 grade points).

Pass/Fail courses don't get a numeric grade

Experiential learning components — practicums and field placements — and competency-based courses are graded on a straight Pass (P) or Fail (F) basis rather than the 4-point/letter scale. These Pass/Fail grades are never converted to a numeric grade and do not affect a student's grade point average.

Pass or Fail grades — awarded for experiential learning and competency-based courses — do not affect a student's total grade point average (GPA) and are never converted to a numeric equivalent. Only courses graded on the 4-point/letter scale (A+ through F) contribute to GPA.

An Incomplete Failure (IF) notation applies in numerically graded courses where a student has not completed a mandatory course component: their final calculated grade is set at 49% or lower, based on performance in the course's other components (mandatory components must be stated in the course outline).

Incomplete grades and the completion deadline

An Incomplete (IN) status is used when a student has not finished all prescribed course requirements by the end of a credit course due to unusual circumstances, provided the student intends to complete the work and the instructor agrees. The maximum time to finish the outstanding work is the following academic term; the instructor must submit the final mark within seven calendar days of the student completing the requirements. If the requirements aren't completed in that window, a failing grade of F is assigned automatically.
