How your GPA is calculated at GSU
Georgia State tracks three cumulative GPAs. Your Institutional GPA uses only courses taken at GSU; your Overall GPA adds in transfer grades. Both are calculated the same way: hours earned per course multiplied by that grade's point value, summed, then divided by total hours attempted — and both use the same numeric grade-point table.
A separate HOPE GPA, used only for HOPE scholarship eligibility, is calculated differently: it does not use plus/minus distinctions at all, so a B+ and a B- both count as a B.
