Withdrawal Grades: W vs. WF at Georgia Southern University

Georgia Southern distinguishes two withdrawal marks. A plain W (Withdrew) is not included in the determination of your GPA at all. A WF (Withdrew Failing) is different: it is counted in your GPA and carries zero grade points, the same weight as an F.

Georgia Southern's grade point average is calculated on a 4.0 scale and is truncated, not rounded, to two decimal places.

How Georgia Southern University Calculates GPA

Your grade point average is calculated by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the total number of credits attempted (GPA hours), excluding learning support and proficiency credit. A GPA is computed separately for each academic level (undergraduate, master's, specialist, doctorate).

Georgia Southern lets undergraduates repeat any course, and only the highest grade earned becomes the official grade used in your institutional GPA - though every grade you earn still appears on your transcript. A separate Regents GPA, used for financial aid purposes, includes all earned hours from every attempt, including repeats.

Academic Standing at Georgia Southern University

An undergraduate is in Good Academic Standing with an institutional GPA of 2.0 or higher.

If your institutional GPA drops below 2.0 at the end of your first semester of enrollment, you're placed on Warning 1. If your term GPA is still below 2.25 and your institutional GPA is still below 2.0 after that, you move to Probation 1, then to Academic Suspension 1 if you fail to reach a 2.25 term GPA or a 2.0 institutional GPA while on probation. A first return from suspension starts a parallel Warning 2 / Probation 2 / Academic Suspension 2 sequence under the same GPA thresholds.

Transfer Credit and GPA at Georgia Southern University

Your institutional GPA is calculated using only courses you enrolled in and completed at Georgia Southern - transfer courses are not included in that calculation.

If you're approved for Academic Renewal (undergraduates only), your past A, B, C, and S grades stay on your transcript and still count toward hours earned for graduation, but they're removed from your total institution GPA and your transfer GPA going forward.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at Georgia Southern University?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at Georgia Southern University?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Georgia Southern University GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
What's the difference between a W and a WF grade at Georgia Southern?

A W (Withdrew) is not included in the determination of your GPA at all. A WF (Withdrew Failing) is counted in your GPA and carries zero grade points - the same weight as an F.

What GPA do I need to stay in good academic standing at Georgia Southern?

Undergraduates need an institutional GPA of 2.0 or higher to be in Good Academic Standing. Falling below 2.0 starts a Warning, then Probation, then Suspension sequence tied to both your term GPA (2.25 threshold) and institutional GPA (2.0 threshold).
