Oakland Community College (OCC) GPA Calculator

Grade points for a course are the credit hours completed multiplied by the grade's point value; these totals are added across courses and divided by total credit hours completed to yield the GPA.

If a course is repeated, the best grade is used in the GPA calculation. Prior to the Summer 2002 semester, the most recent grade was used instead for repeated courses.

The following marks are not used in the GPA calculation: AU (Audit), I (Incomplete), W (Student-Initiated Withdrawal), and WS (Withdrawal - Stopped Attending). A CP (Continuing Progress) mark carries no grade point value itself; once the course is completed, the letter grade issued at that time is used in the GPA.

A student is in Good Standing with a most recent semester GPA (SGPA) of 2.0 or higher and a cumulative GPA (CGPA) of 2.0 or higher.

When a student's semester GPA falls below 2.0: the first such semester (following a semester clear of any sanction) results in an Academic Warning. A second consecutive semester below 2.0 results in another Academic Warning if the CGPA is still above 2.0, or Academic Intervention if the CGPA has also fallen below 2.0 (requiring the student to meet with a counselor/advisor, who may limit credit hours or set other restrictions). A third consecutive semester below 2.0 continues Academic Intervention if the CGPA is above 2.0, or results in Academic Suspension for one calendar year if both the SGPA and CGPA are below 2.0.

A student returning from suspension is placed on Academic Return, continuing semester by semester until the CGPA reaches 2.0 or higher; if both the SGPA and CGPA fall below 2.0 again while on Academic Return, the student returns to Academic Suspension.

At the end of each fall and winter semester, a Dean's List is produced naming students who earned a 3.5 GPA or higher for that semester while carrying a load of at least 6 credit hours at the time GPAs are calculated. Students eligible for the Dean's List are notified by mail approximately one month after the semester ends.

Undergraduate course credit completed with a grade of 2.00 or higher at an institution accredited by one of the eight CHEA-recognized regional institutional accrediting bodies is accepted as transfer credit, provided the sending institution was accredited when the credit was earned. Credit from an accredited national or professional body recognized by CHEA and listed in the ACE Directory (including Armed Services programs and certain business/industry programs and certificates) may also be considered.

Only official transcripts — bearing the seal and signature of the prime record-keeper and sent directly from the prior institution — are evaluated. The OCC transcript summarizes credit earned elsewhere rather than listing individual transferred courses, and transfer credit does not influence the OCC GPA. Transfer credits cannot replace required technical courses for the Associate of Applied Science degree except by consent of the appropriate technical program faculty.
