How GPA Is Calculated

Cumulative GPA is calculated on all credit courses taken at Southern Crescent Technical College: each course's credit hours are multiplied by its grade points (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0), the results are summed, and the total is divided by total credit hours attempted.

Credit hours from courses graded I, W, TR, AC, AU, EXE, or EXP are excluded from the GPA calculation, as are Learning Support grades (A*-F*).

Courses satisfactorily completed may be repeated under special circumstances. All attempts remain on the transcript, and all grades received, including repeat attempts, are used in computing the cumulative GPA.

Academic Standing

Students who maintain a semester GPA of 2.0 or higher are considered in Good Standing.

A student is placed on Academic Probation if the semester GPA falls below 2.0 while in good standing. Failing to maintain a 2.0 semester GPA for a second consecutive semester results in Academic Suspension, requiring the student to sit out one full semester before reapplying; a second or subsequent suspension requires sitting out one calendar year. Suspensions may be appealed through the Academic Affairs Office.

Students readmitted after suspension return on academic probation.

Graduation GPA Requirement

A minimum grade point average of 2.0 in the required program curriculum is needed to graduate. Specified courses in degree, diploma, and technical certificate of credit programs may require a grade of C or higher, including any course that is a prerequisite to a more advanced course.

Graduation GPA is calculated only on the courses required for the student's program.

Academic Honors

Students earning a semester GPA of 4.0 while completing at least 12 credit hours in Good Standing are named to the President's List; a semester GPA of 3.5 under the same conditions earns the Dean's List. Both designations are printed on the official transcript.

Graduates completing 18 or more required credit hours with a graduation GPA of 3.75-3.99 are recognized as Honor Graduates; a graduation GPA of 4.00 earns Honor Graduate with Distinction.

Your cumulative GPA is the credit-weighted average of your semester GPAs across every semester: (semester GPA₁ × credits₁ + … + semester GPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + … + creditsₙ). Save each semester to the tracker on this page, by course or as a quick semester GPA + credits entry, and it works out your cumulative GPA on every save, edit and delete.
Is this SCTC GPA calculator free, and is my data private?
