How grading works at Taif University
Taif University grades each course on a nine-level scale from A+ to F, with grade points running from 0.00 to 4.00 — the university's own regulations state explicitly that its average is calculated "out of (4)", adopting the 4.00-scale column of the shared national grading table. A+ (95–100%) earns 4.00 points and F (below 60%) earns 0.00.
To pass a course a student needs at least a D grade (60–64.99%, worth 1.00 point); anything below 60% is an F. A separate administrative code, "غ" / Absent (denial), carries the same 0.00 points as F but is assigned for missing the final exam rather than exam performance.

How Taif University calculates GPA
Taif University reports a Semester GPA and a Cumulative GPA, both computed as total quality points (grade points × credit hours) divided by total credit hours attempted for the courses in question — the cumulative figure runs across every course studied since the student first enrolled.
- Not counted toward GPA: IP (in-progress), IC (incomplete), NP/NF (pass/fail-only course markers), W (withdrawn), and E (exempted-from-course).
- A student may retake a course already passed if doing so is needed to reach the required graduation average.

Academic warning and dismissal at Taif University
A student is dismissed from Taif University if either:
- they receive three consecutive academic warnings for a cumulative GPA below the minimum average set for their major/graduation — the Admissions & Registration Standing Committee may grant a 4th and, as a maximum, 5th additional chance with college approval, for students whose cumulative GPA is within 15% of the graduation floor (health, engineering, and computing colleges) or 25% (all other colleges); or
- they fail to complete graduation requirements within an extra allowance of half the program's normal duration — the University Council may still grant one further exceptional academic year.
A student dismissed for disciplinary reasons may not re-apply for re-enrollment until at least three years after the dismissal decision.

Minimum GPA to graduate from Taif University
To graduate, a Taif University student must complete their study plan with a cumulative GPA no lower than the "Pass" classification (cumulative GPA of at least 1.00 out of 4.00) — the University Council may set a higher minimum for individual majors. A student's academic record shows two GPAs: an overall cumulative average and a per-semester average.
A student who has passed all required courses but has not yet reached the graduation average may be assigned additional suitable courses, on department recommendation, specifically to raise the cumulative GPA, within the normal time allowed to complete graduation requirements.

Graduation honors at Taif University
Taif University grants graduation Latin honors by cumulative GPA (out of 4.00):
- First Class Honors — 3.75 to 4.00.
- Second Class Honors — 3.25 up to (but not including) 3.75.
Both require never having failed a course at Taif or elsewhere (including as a visiting or transferred student), completing graduation requirements within the average of the minimum and maximum allowed duration for the college/institute, and having studied at least 60% of graduation requirements at Taif University itself.
Separately, the base regulation's overall graduation classification bands (Excellent/Very Good/Good/Pass) are set on the same 4.00-out-of basis, matching the point scale above.

How transfer credit works at Taif University
Taif University accepts course equivalency for a course previously studied elsewhere if its content matches at least 75%, its credit hours are equal to or greater than the Taif course, and the student earned at least 70 marks in it. Equated courses appear on the transcript with the grade earned and are counted in the cumulative GPA — up to a maximum of 40% of the student's study plan.
A separate exemption track lets a student be excused from a course (up to 25% of the study plan) based on an equivalent prior course or a recognized professional certificate earned within the last two years; an exempted course is marked "Exempted" (E) and carries no grade points, so it does not affect the GPA.
Incoming transfer students accepted from outside the university must not have been dismissed from their previous institution for disciplinary reasons and must go on to complete at least 60% of their degree's required units at Taif University.
