NED University of Engineering and Technology (NEDUET) GPA Calculator

NED University uses an absolute (marks-based) grading system: every course is examined numerically, and the final result is then declared as a letter grade together with a grade point against fixed percentage bands — not by comparing students to their cohort. Theory, practical, design and Final Year Project courses all follow the same scale.

The scale runs from F (0.0) up to A and A+ (4.0), and NED is one of the engineering universities that awards an A+ for the highest marks. The minimum passing grade is D (1.0 grade points) at 50% marks; below 50% is an F. The full letter-to-marks-to-grade-point mapping is shown in the Grade Scale Reference on this page.

NED reports a Grade Point Average (GPA) for each semester and a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) across all completed semesters. Both are credit-hour weighted: each course's grade point is multiplied by its credit hours, summed, and divided by the total credit hours — so higher-credit courses weigh more heavily.

• An F grade counts toward your GPA/CGPA (it is not ignored).
• A WU (withdrawal unofficial) or I (incomplete) grade is not counted toward GPA/CGPA.
• When a course is repeated — to clear a fail or to improve your CGPA — only the better grade is used in the GPA/CGPA.
• A P grade denotes a pass in a non-credit course and carries no grade point.

A student whose CGPA falls below 2.00 is placed on probation. A first-year student who does not obtain at least a 2.00 CGPA in the First Year Fall Semester remains on probation during the First Year Spring Semester, and a student who stays below 2.00 CGPA after a probation period is not allowed to register for the next semester until the CGPA is brought back up to 2.00.

To be allowed to sit a course's final examination, a student must also have at least 75% attendance in that course during the semester; shortages between 65% and 75% may be condoned only on documented grounds.

To be awarded a degree, a NED student must pass all the courses prescribed for their discipline with a CGPA of at least 2.0. This applies whether the student was admitted in the First Year or directly into a later year on migration or an associate-degree basis (in which case exempted courses are not counted toward the CGPA).

Registration for the Final Year Design Project (FYDP) is allowed only after a student has completed at least 80% of the courses up to the third year of the discipline (up to the fourth year for Architecture).

Students admitted through Change of Discipline (COD) or on relegation keep the grades of equivalent courses already passed — those grades are carried forward under the corresponding course in the new discipline. For students admitted on migration from another institution, equivalent courses are marked Exempted, and the grades of exempted courses are not counted toward the CGPA; the total credit hours of the programme are reduced accordingly.

Under approved mobility programmes, a course studied abroad can be exempted only if it has at least 75% content equivalency and was passed with a grade of B or above.
