South Louisiana Community College (SoLAcc) GPA Calculator

Beyond the standard A-F letter grades, the catalog defines several notations that carry no grade points and are excluded from GPA calculations: W (Withdrawal) is posted to the permanent record but "will not be included in the calculation of the semester or cumulative averages." I (Incomplete) "yields neither credit nor quality points applicable toward a degree" and must be resolved by the midterm of the following semester or it automatically converts to an F. P (Pass) and AU (Audit) are both explicitly "not used in computing the semester and cumulative averages."

FS (Failure - Stopped Attending) is the one exception: the catalog states "FS counts as an F in the GPA," carrying the same 0 quality points as a standard F.

The catalog distinguishes several GPA figures: the Semester GPA (quality points earned in one term), the Institution Adjusted Cumulative GPA (all SoLAcc coursework after the repeat/delete rule is applied, used for semester academic-status decisions), the Overall GPA (all SoLAcc and transferred coursework combined, used for graduation eligibility), and the Transfer Adjusted Cumulative GPA (grades earned at other institutions, used to set the academic status of incoming transfer students).

Students may repeat a course as many times as they choose. Only the last grade earned counts toward the adjusted GPA; the course is flagged "R" (Repeat) on the transcript, with a code of "E" (excluded from GPA) or "I" (included in GPA) marking each attempt. The highest grade earned determines whether the course satisfies prerequisite and degree requirements.

There are three categories of academic status, each based on the SoLAcc adjusted overall cumulative GPA: Good Standing (not on probation), Academic Probation (after attempting 15 or more hours, the adjusted cumulative GPA falls below 2.0), and Academic Suspension. A student on probation who fails to earn at least a 2.0 semester GPA is suspended for one semester; suspension carries a minimum of 24 attempted hours before it can apply. A suspended student may seek readmission on probation after the suspension period elapses or after a successful appeal, and must maintain at least a 2.0 semester GPA in every subsequent semester until the overall adjusted cumulative GPA reaches 2.0, or face another one-semester suspension.

Students become eligible for academic honors after completing 12 hours at SoLAcc (excluding developmental courses). The Chancellor's List recognizes a semester GPA of 4.00. The Dean's List recognizes a semester GPA between 3.40 and 3.99: full-time students qualify with no letter grade below a "C" and may achieve it up to twice per academic year; part-time students qualify by earning a 3.40 GPA or higher on 12 or more GPA-contributing credits across two consecutive semesters (minimum six credits each, summer excluded), up to once per academic year.

The Transfer Adjusted Cumulative GPA is based solely on coursework taken at other colleges and universities that a student transfers to SoLAcc; it sets the academic status of degree-seeking transfer students at initial enrollment, re-entry, or once 15 hours have been attempted.

Grades of "D" are not typically transferable to other institutions, and SoLAcc itself does not accept "D" grades in transfer into its own programs. A "C" or better is required on SoLAcc program core courses, though a "D" is acceptable toward degree credit for non-core courses.
