Alexander College GPA Calculator

Alexander College grades most courses on a percentage basis, effective September 2006: each percentage band maps to a letter grade and a grade point on a 4.33 scale, running from A+ (90% and above, 4.33 points, "Outstanding") down to F (49% and below, 0.00 points). Some courses instead issue separate theory and practical marks, or use a standing code (such as Audit or Withdrawn) rather than a percentage grade, and the College notes that course passing grades vary by course rather than following one fixed college-wide minimum.

An earlier, separate grading scale applied only to Mathematics and Statistics courses from Winter 2018 through Fall 2021; that scale has since expired and the general table above is the current one for all disciplines.

For each course counted toward GPA, the course's grade-point value is multiplied by its credit value; these products are summed across all courses and divided by the total credits to give the Grade Point Average (GPA). The College's own worked example: a B- (2.67) in a 4-credit course, a C+ (2.33) in a 3-credit course, an F (0.00) in a 3-credit course, and an A+ (4.33) in a 3-credit course sum to 30.66 points across 13 credits, for a GPA of 2.36.

Both a term GPA (a single semester) and a cumulative GPA (CGPA) (all semesters) appear on a student's permanent record. Where a course has been successfully repeated, only the higher grade counts toward the GPA. Courses numbered 099 and lower (preparatory-level) are excluded from the GPA calculation entirely. GPA values are recorded to the nearest hundredth.

A student is in good academic standing when their term GPA is at or above 1.50 and they are not under Academic Warning, Probation, or Suspension. A term GPA below 1.50 with fewer than 15 credits attempted triggers an Academic Warning.

Academic Probation applies once a student has attempted at least 15 credits and their term GPA drops below 1.50 (or for academic-misconduct reasons, or automatically for students admitted under Provisional Admission). A student on probation may attempt a maximum of 10 credits in a single term. Effective April 28, 2025, a student may remain on Academic Probation for up to two successive terms before Academic Suspension applies; suspension itself lasts a maximum of two consecutive terms, after which a still-unreinstated student is deemed no longer registered at the College.

Students who achieve a semester GPA of 3.50 to 3.99 in a minimum of 12 credits are placed on the Honour Roll. Students who achieve a semester GPA of 4.00 or higher in a minimum of 12 credits are placed on the Dean's List.

To be eligible for graduation from an Associate Degree program, a student must complete all program requirements with a minimum cumulative program GPA of 2.0, equivalent to a 'C' average.

Effective September 9, 2024, a course accepted for credit transfer or as a prerequisite must have been completed with a grade of at least C- (grade point 1.67). Where credit is awarded for coursework completed outside Alexander College, it is noted in the "Transferred Credit" section of the transcript, but the grade is neither displayed nor included in the GPA calculation.
