Griffith University GPA Calculator

Griffith grades on a seven-point numbered scale, with 7 the highest possible final grade and 1 the lowest — not a letter scale. The number itself is your grade; the words below are Griffith's own titles for each numeral, each tied to a published percentage range:

• 7 — High Distinction (85-100%)
• 6 — Distinction (75-84.5%)
• 5 — Credit (65-74.5%)
• 4 — Pass (50-64.5%)
• 3 — Fail (45-49.5%)
• 2 — Fail (25-44.5%)
• 1 — Fail (0.5-24.5%)

A grade of 3, 2 or 1 is a fail. Griffith also uses non-numeric outcomes for particular circumstances, including FNS (Fail – No Assessment Submitted) and WF (Withdrawal with Failure), both treated as a grade of 0 in your GPA, and non-graded pass/fail results (NGP/NGF) for courses assessed on a pass/fail basis, which don't affect your GPA at all.

Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is a weighted average: your final grade in each course is multiplied by that course's credit points, the results are added together, and the total is divided by the total credit points completed. GPA is reported to 2 decimal places on your Academic Transcript (a raw score of 6.43478 is reported as 6.44).

Griffith reports GPA in several ways: Trimester GPA (one trimester's courses), Career GPA (every attempt at every course across your whole time at Griffith at a given study level, cumulative even if you change programs), Program GPA (every attempt while enrolled in a specific program), and Special GPA (a custom subset calculated for a particular purpose).

Grades of FNS (Fail – No Assessment Submitted) and WF (Withdrawal with Failure) count as 0 in your GPA. Non-graded pass/fail results (NGP/NGF) and approved transfer credit are left out of the calculation entirely.

Griffith measures your academic progress twice a year using your program GPA and how many of your enrolled courses you successfully complete. You're considered to be making good academic progress if you complete at least 50% of your enrolled courses and maintain a program GPA of at least 3.5.

Your risk level is shown with a colour code: Green (good progress), Yellow (low risk), Orange (medium risk) and Red (significant risk, under consideration for exclusion). You may become eligible for exclusion from Griffith if you have a program GPA below 3.5 after previously being rated Orange at least once in your current program, if you fail the same course three times, or if you fail one or more courses designated as critical to your program.

Griffith awards a Bachelor Degree or a Masters Degree (Coursework or Extended) with distinction if you achieve a minimum program GPA of 6.5 with no failed courses (from Trimester 1 2017 onward). This is recorded on your testamur as 'This award was achieved with Distinction'.

For one-year Honours programs, your final Honours class is set by your program GPA together with your dissertation mark, which must also meet a minimum percentage:

• Class I — Program GPA 6.200-7.000, dissertation ≥ 80%
• Class IIA — Program GPA 5.650-6.199, dissertation ≥ 70%
• Class IIB — Program GPA 5.000-5.649, dissertation ≥ 60%
• Class III — Program GPA 4.000-4.999, dissertation ≥ 50%

A program GPA below 4 and/or a dissertation mark below 50% means the Honours degree is not awarded. Four-year (or longer) Honours programs instead follow their own program requirements, and not every program awards all classes of Honours.
