Plus/Minus Grading and S/U Courses
USF faculty may use a plus/minus grading system to assign student grades; use of plus/minus grading is at the discretion of the individual faculty member.
Certain courses are designated S/U only. In an S/U-graded course, the instructor assigns a standard letter grade internally and it converts as follows: A, B, C, or C- converts to "S" (Satisfactory); D or F converts to "U" (Unsatisfactory). S/U grades are not computed in the GPA.

How the GPA Is Computed, and Repeated Courses
GPA is computed by dividing the total quality points earned by the total hours attempted at USF. Quality points are calculated by multiplying each course's credit hours by the quality-point value of the grade received. Credit hours for courses graded I, IU, M, N, NC, NG, NR, R, S, U, W, WC, WE, or Z, and courses with a transcript repeat indicator of "E," are subtracted from attempted hours before the GPA is calculated.
A repeated course is normally awarded credit hours only once. However, D, F, FF, IF, and MF grades on repeated coursework are counted in the GPA computation as many times as they are recorded. If a student earns a "C" or higher and then earns a "C" or higher again on a course that may not be repeated for credit, the new grade is not computed in the GPA unless Grade Forgiveness is applied.
Grade Forgiveness lets a student repeat a course and have the repeat grade (posted "D-" or higher) replace the original in the cumulative GPA, limited to three USF courses with no more than one repeat per course; the original grade remains on the transcript, annotated "E."

Academic Standing, Probation, and Dismissal
Undergraduate students are expected to maintain a cumulative USF GPA of 2.00 or higher; students below 2.00 are not in good academic standing.
The first time a student's cumulative USF GPA falls below 2.0, the student is placed on academic probation and must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA each subsequent term. A student on probation whose semester GPA falls below 2.0 is academically dismissed. A student who withdraws from all classes after the fifth day of classes while on probation is also dismissed.
First-time-in-college students may be granted a one-time academic dismissal deferment for an additional semester. A dismissed student may return only under USF's Academic Renewal policies, which allow qualifying students to have portions of their academic record excluded from their GPA with Academic Regulations Committee approval.

General Education and Summer Enrollment Requirements
All baccalaureate students must complete 36 hours of general education coursework meeting state and university requirements, and must satisfy Florida's Civics Literacy requirement.
Students entering USF with fewer than 60 semester hours must earn at least nine semester hours of credit prior to graduation through attendance in one or more Summer terms at USF or another State University System of Florida institution, absent a hardship waiver.

Dean's List and Graduation Honors
To earn Dean's List in a semester, a student must complete 12 hours of graded (A-F) USF coursework with no Incomplete, Unsatisfactory, or W grades, and earn a semester GPA of 3.9 or higher.
To graduate with honors, a candidate needs at least 40 credits of graded upper-level USF coursework and a 3.50 USF GPA (30 hours / 3.50 GPA for programs with multiple clinical experiences). Diploma designations: cum laude (3.50-3.69 overall GPA), magna cum laude (3.70-3.89), and summa cum laude (3.90 and above); overall GPA is not rounded up for this purpose. Undergraduates graduating with a 4.00 overall GPA are recognized as King O'Neal Scholars.

Transfer Credit and Residency
Transfer credit is accepted only from institutions accredited by a USDE-recognized accreditor. Candidates for graduation must complete at least 30 of their last 60 undergraduate credit hours in courses offered by USF, and at least 50 percent of required major coursework in courses offered by USF.
A student pursuing a second baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate degree (including a second one from USF) must complete a minimum of 30 additional semester hours of USF undergraduate coursework toward that degree.
