GPA Calculation, Pass/No Pass, Incomplete & Repeat Rules

Grades of P, NP, CR, NC, Incomplete (I), and Withdrawal (W) are not incorporated into GPA calculations; only courses graded A, B, C, D, or F count toward GPA.

Under the Pass/No Pass option, a P corresponds to a letter grade of A, B, or C and an NP to a D or F; students are limited to 15 semester units under this option, and a letter grade cannot be changed to Pass/No Pass or vice versa unless the course is repeated. A course in which NP was earned may be repeated once for a P or letter grade.

An Incomplete (I) may be assigned only for illness or severe personal problems that prevent completing a final exam, project, or term paper, under an “Incomplete Grade Contract” that must be resolved within one calendar year; students may not re-enroll in a course while holding an Incomplete in it.

A course may generally be repeated to improve a grade of D, F, or NC, with the later grade then used in the GPA (except for impacted-program courses). A course passed with a “C” or better may be repeated only for extenuating circumstances with Academic Council approval, and in that case the repeated grade is excluded from the GPA calculation.

Academic Standing, Probation & Dismissal

Students who fail to maintain satisfactory academic standing are placed on academic probation, and if they do not improve, on academic dismissal, which bars enrollment in future semesters and requires a counseling intervention.

Academic probation is assigned when a student has attempted at least 12 semester units and has a semester or cumulative GPA below 2.0, or is readmitted after academic dismissal; it is removed once cumulative GPA reaches 2.0 or higher.

Academic dismissal follows when, while on probation, cumulative GPA remains below 2.0 for three consecutive semesters, or 50% or more of transcript entries are W, I, or NC for three consecutive semesters. It is lifted once cumulative GPA reaches 2.0 or W/I/NC entries fall below 50% of attempted units, or after a semester GPA of 2.25+ following readmission (which keeps the student on probation until cumulative GPA reaches 2.0).

Progress probation applies when a student enrolled in at least 12 semester units receives W, I, or NC entries for 50% or more of those units, and is removed once that share falls below 50%.

Honors & Recognition

President's Honor List: awarded each semester to students with a GPA of 3.85 or higher and at least 39 grade points in not fewer than 12 completed units.

Dean's Honor List: awarded each semester to students with a GPA of 3.25 or higher and at least 39 grade points in not fewer than 12 completed units.

Alpha Gamma Sigma (California Community College Honor Society) recognizes students with a high GPA across all college work; permanent membership may be awarded at graduation.

Phi Theta Kappa (Beta Mu Gamma Chapter) requires 12 completed semester hours of associate-degree coursework with a cumulative GPA of 3.5, maintained at 3.25 or higher to remain in good standing.

Honors at graduation: a cumulative GPA of 3.50–3.74 earns Honors, and 3.75 or above earns High Honors.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at SCC?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at SCC?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Solano Community College (SCC) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
