Kansas State University (K-State) GPA Calculator

Retakes: An undergraduate may retake a course to improve a grade; the original grade is marked “retaken” and removed from the cumulative GPA, and the retake grade — higher or lower — always replaces it in the GPA calculation. This removal applies only to a student's first five retaken courses (once per course) during their K-State career; grades from further retakes of the same course are all averaged into the GPA. A course retaken after a bachelor's degree is posted does not affect that degree's credits or GPA.

Academic Fresh Start / Academic Forgiveness: An eligible undergraduate may apply once, to one policy only, to compute an alternative cumulative GPA that excludes grades from a defined block of prior terms (up to five consecutive terms / 60 hours for Fresh Start after a 2+ year absence and readmission; up to two consecutive terms for Forgiveness following a documented extenuating circumstance). The excluded coursework and original GPA remain on the transcript with a notation of the adjustment.

Undergraduate students are placed on academic warning when their Kansas State University semester or cumulative GPA (excluding transfer credit) falls below 2.000, and are removed from warning once it returns to 2.000 or above.

Students must normally be on academic warning the semester before academic dismissal (except a first-semester GPA below 1.000, which dismisses immediately). Dismissal follows a sliding GPA floor based on total accumulated credit hours (a maximum of 60 transfer hours counts toward the hour total, but not toward the GPA itself):

A student is protected from dismissal in a given semester by earning a K-State semester GPA of 2.200 or higher on 12 or more graded hours (or the college's higher minimum, if set). Dismissed students may normally seek reinstatement after at least two semesters.

To be awarded a bachelor's degree, a student must meet two separate GPA thresholds: at least 2.000 on Kansas State University graded courses applied toward the degree, and at least 2.000 cumulative GPA on all K-State graded courses. A bachelor's degree also requires a minimum of 120 semester hours, and the student must be clear of any active academic dismissal or suspension under §F100–F103.

Graduation honors (bachelor's degree candidates completing at least 60 K-State undergraduate hours, including 42 graded hours) are awarded by cumulative K-State GPA:

• Summa Cum Laude: 3.950 or above
• Magna Cum Laude: 3.850–3.949
• Cum Laude: 3.750–3.849

Concurrent graduate or professional credit is excluded from the undergraduate honors calculation.

Semester honors are awarded to students with at least 12 graded hours and a semester GPA of 3.750 or above (Graduate School and Veterinary Medicine students are ineligible).

Grades for courses accepted in transfer from another institution are never averaged into the K-State semester or cumulative GPA — only Kansas State University graded credit hours count toward GPA calculations. (Transfer hours can still count, up to a maximum of 60, toward the credit-hour total used to determine academic-dismissal review points.)

No more than 75 semester hours may be transferred as credit from a community college toward a K-State bachelor's degree (Kansas Board of Regents policy).
