College of New Jersey (TCNJ) GPA Calculator

A student's grade point average (GPA) is based only on courses taken at The College of New Jersey, and is calculated by dividing the sum of quality points (credits attempted × grade weight) by quality units (credits attempted in letter-graded courses at the 100 level or above).

Not included in the calculation: courses below the 100 level (additive credit); courses taken on a Pass/Unsatisfactory or Credit/No-Credit basis; audited courses; courses transferred from other institutions; and credit earned through study abroad or international exchange programs.

A grade of WP (withdrew after the 9th week, passing) does not affect GPA; a grade of WF (withdrew after the 9th week, failing) is calculated as an F.

Good academic standing requires a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher for students who have attempted more than 7.25 course units at TCNJ. Students who have attempted 7.25 course units or fewer are in good standing at 2.0+, placed on Academic Intervention between 1.75 and below 2.0, and placed on Academic Probation below 1.75; students above 7.25 attempted units fall to Probation below 2.0.

A student on Academic Probation for two consecutive semesters (or three total semesters in their academic career) is subject to Academic Dismissal. A reinstated or readmitted student may be granted a two-semester grace period to raise their cumulative GPA to 2.0 or higher.

To earn a bachelor's degree, students must complete at least eight course units at The College of New Jersey, normally including the student's last eight course units. No more than three course units in the senior year may be earned away from the College without prior approval.

Dean's List: degree candidates completing three or more letter-graded course units in a semester with a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher are eligible; Pass and Ungraded Option (CD) courses do not count toward this requirement.

Graduation with honors requires at least 15 course units earned at TCNJ (excluding Pass/Unsatisfactory, Credit/No-Credit, additive credit, and credit-by-examination units), awarded by cumulative GPA: 3.6–3.749 cum laude, 3.75–3.899 magna cum laude, 3.9 and above summa cum laude.

Any full-time undergraduate with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher may apply to the Honors & Scholars Program.

Transfer credit is capped by the sending institution type: community/junior colleges up to 15.5 course units (62 credits); four-year institutions up to 22.5 course units (90 credits); diploma schools of nursing up to 7.5 course units (30 credits, RN-to-BSN candidates only). Across all sources, transfer credit may not exceed 22.5 course units (90 credits) total. The minimum grade accepted in transfer is C. One course unit equals four semester hours for transfer purposes.
