How grading works at Austin Peay State University

Austin Peay State University (APSU) uses a 4.00-point letter-grade scale: A (4.00) Excellent, B (3.00) Good, C (2.00) Average, D (1.00) Below Average, F (0.00) Failure.

Two additional failure variants also count toward your GPA at 0.00: FA (Failure, stopped attending class) and FN (Failure, never attended class).

There is no A+, and no plus/minus modifiers anywhere on the scale. Grades of AU (Audit), P/XF (Pass-Fail courses), I (Incomplete), IP (In Progress), W (Withdrew), and NR (Not Recorded) carry no grade points and are not calculated in your GPA.

How your GPA is calculated at APSU

Your GPA is quality points earned divided by quality hours attempted — each grade's point value multiplied by the course's credit hours, summed, then divided by total credit hours attempted. Pass-Fail, Incomplete, In Progress, and NR grades are excluded from quality hours attempted.

If you repeat a course, only the last grade received counts toward your GPA — except that if a course is attempted a third time or more (including transfer attempts), every subsequent grade counts, not just the last.

Coursework transferred to APSU (for enrollment from Summer 2015 onward) is not included in your overall, major, or minor GPA calculation, though it still counts toward graduation honor status such as Cum Laude.

Academic standing, probation, and suspension at APSU

You're in good standing if your cumulative GPA meets the minimum for your quality hours attempted: 1.5 (0–29 hours), 1.8 (30–45), 1.9 (46–59), or 2.0 (60 or more).

Falling below those minimums places you on academic probation, with credit loads capped at 16 hours per semester. You're suspended from probation if you fail to earn a 2.00 GPA that semester and don't raise your cumulative GPA above the same probation thresholds.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at APSU?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at APSU?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Austin Peay State University (APSU) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
Does Austin Peay State University award an A+?

No. APSU's grading scale tops out at a plain A, worth 4.00 grade points — there is no A+, and no plus/minus modifiers of any kind anywhere on the scale.
