Grading System

Lehman College uses the CUNY Uniform Grade Glossary. Plus ("+") and minus ("-") modifiers are interpreted as a flat +0.3 or -0.3 off the base letter grade's quality points; A+ and A are both capped at 4.00. Under the CUNY F Repeat Policy, up to 16 credits of "F" grades can be removed from the GPA calculation by retaking the course at the same college and earning at least a C-; the original F remains on the transcript. As of Fall 2021, WU (Withdrew Unofficially) no longer carries a punitive impact on GPA.

GPA / Index Computation

The cumulative index (GPA) is computed by multiplying each grade's credit value by its quality points, totaling the products, and dividing by total credits attempted, computed to three decimal places. The Fresh Start Program lets eligible undergraduate students seeking readmission begin their GPA anew, with prior Lehman coursework excluded from the computation; eligibility requires no more than 60 indexable credits earned in the initial enrollment, a Lehman GPA below 2.0, no prior Fresh Start grant, and completion of an associate's degree or another qualifying condition.

Academic Standing

Students must attain a minimum cumulative GPA of 1.5 through their first 12 attempted credits, 1.75 through 24 attempted credits, and 2.0 cumulative thereafter to remain in good standing. Falling short places a student on academic warning for the next semester; if the required GPA still isn't met, the student moves to full-time or part-time probation (based on that semester's term index), and failing to meet either the required cumulative GPA or a 2.3 term index while on probation results in dismissal. Dismissed students may appeal to the Committee on Admission and Standing and, after an assigned academic intervention, may be readmitted on part-time probation. This policy took effect Fall 2023.

Graduation Requirements

A bachelor's degree at Lehman College requires a minimum of 120 credits, with at least 30 credits completed in residence at Lehman (including at least half the credits of the chosen major, and minor if required).

Academic Honors

Full-time students earning 12 or more credits in residence in a fall or spring semester with a GPA of 3.5 or above are placed on the Dean's List (part-time students qualify by reaching 12 new credits in residence across two consecutive semesters at 3.5 or above); no WU or INC grades are allowed. Students meeting Dean's List qualifications with a GPA of 3.9 or higher receive the Presidential Scholar designation, which supersedes the Dean's List. Departmental honors require a cumulative index of 3.2 and a 3.5 index in the major (or an interdisciplinary program) across at least 24 credits. College Latin honors require at least 50 indexable credits in residence at Lehman:

HonorCumulative Index
Cum laude3.5-3.74
Magna cum laude3.75-3.84
Summa cum laude3.85-4.0

Transfer Credit

Credit generally transfers for courses from regionally accredited institutions that match a Lehman course description; courses from non-accredited institutions transfer only with departmental approval and only if a Lehman equivalent exists. Courses completed outside the City University of New York with a grade of D or below do not transfer, though they still count toward an applicant's cumulative index for admission purposes. Students must complete at least 30 credits, plus at least half of their major (and minor, if required), in residence at Lehman.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at Lehman College, CUNY?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at Lehman College, CUNY?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Lehman College, CUNY GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
