Boston College (BC) GPA Calculator

Pass (P) and Unsatisfactory (U) grades have no effect on the GPA, and neither does a grade of Withdrawal (W).

Boston College does not use grade replacement: if a failed course is retaken, both the original F and the new grade are counted in the cumulative GPA, though only the retake counts toward degree credit. If a course already passed is retaken, the repeated course's grade is also calculated into the cumulative GPA, but the course does not count again toward degree credit.

A temporary Incomplete (I) grade automatically converts to F if not resolved by March 1 (fall courses), August 1 (spring courses), or October 1 (summer courses).

Sophomores, juniors, and seniors may elect a Pass/Fail option for elective courses only — not major, minor, Core, or corequisite courses — by November 1 for the fall semester or April 1 for the spring; a grade of D- or higher earns a Pass.

To earn a bachelor's degree, undergraduate day-college students must complete their program with a satisfactory cumulative GPA of at least 1.5 in the Carroll School of Management, or at least 1.667 in all other undergraduate schools.

The Dean's List recognizes undergraduate achievement each semester in two tiers: First Honors (GPA of 3.700–4.000) and Second Honors (GPA of 3.500–3.699).

To be eligible, a student must earn at least 12 credits in letter-graded courses (excluding Pass grades) and receive a passing grade in every course; students with a withdrawal, failing grade, or Incomplete for the semester are not eligible.

A grade of C- or better is required to receive transfer credit for a course completed at another institution; an Academic Dean may require a higher grade in some cases.

Grade point averages do not transfer: a new GPA begins with a student's enrollment as a full-time undergraduate at Boston College, reflecting only coursework completed at BC.

Incoming transfer credit is capped by class standing: up to 30 credit hours for a first-semester sophomore, 45 for a second-semester sophomore, and 60 for an incoming junior.
