Habib University GPA Calculator

Habib University is a US-style liberal-arts university that grades on a letter scale mapped to a 0 to 4.0 grade-point system, with no fixed marks percentage bands. Each letter grade carries a fixed numeric value shown in the Grade Scale Reference on this page — from A+/A at 4.00 down to F at 0.00.

Two failing designations exist: F (fail) and F-A ("Fail on Account of Low Attendance"), both worth 0.00 grade points and both counted toward your GPA. Grades A+ through C-, plus F and F-A, all count toward the Semester GPA (SGPA) and Cumulative GPA (CGPA).

GPA is the Total Quality Points (TQP) divided by the Total Attempted Credits (TAC). Quality points for a course equal its earned credit hours multiplied by the numeric value of the letter grade earned, using the values in the Grade Scale Reference on this page.

• Semester GPA (SGPA) covers a single semester.
• Cumulative GPA (CGPA) covers the entire duration of enrollment.

Only courses attended at the University count toward SGPA and CGPA. The following grades are not counted: Audit (AU), Withdraw (W), Withdrawal on Account of Low Attendance (W-A), Incomplete (I), Transfer (TR), Credit (CR), Non-Credit (NCR) and Pass (P).

To ease the transition from high school, first-year students' course scores in their first semester are converted to CR (Credit, pass) or NCR (Non-Credit, fail) instead of letter grades. These are excluded from the CGPA, though the credits still count toward graduation; one or more NCR grades places a student on Academic Warning.

A student may repeat a course to clear an F, W, W-A, W-F or NCR grade, to satisfy a graduation requirement, or to improve CGPA — up to two times (three attempts total). All attempts stay on the transcript, but only the best-earned grade counts toward GPA; other attempts are marked R (Repeat) and excluded.

Good Academic Standing requires a cumulative GPA of at least 2.33 while enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester. Standing is measured purely by CGPA and drives eligibility for the Dean's Honors List, Learn Abroad / Research Abroad programs, student employment, and scholarships/financial aid.

• Academic Alert (still in good standing): CGPA between 2.33 and 2.67, or CGPA above 2.33 but an SGPA that falls below 2.33 in a semester.
• Academic Warning: CGPA falls below 2.33 (or one or more first-semester NCR grades, or under-enrolling below 12 credits without approval).
• First Academic Probation, then Final Academic Probation, apply on successive failures to return to good standing.
• Academic Dismissal: failing to reach the required CGPA by the end of Final Academic Probation. Dismissed students are not eligible for re-admission.

To graduate, a student must complete all Habib Liberal Core requirements, complete their program-specific major requirements, and earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.33 at the time of graduation. Minimum credit-hour totals vary by program (for example, 125–135 credit hours across the different majors). Transfer students must additionally spend at least four semesters full-time at the University before graduating.

Students in Good Academic Standing are eligible for the Dean's Honors List in a given regular semester. For research distinction, a student pursuing an Honors Thesis must have a minimum CGPA of 3.5; to earn a thesis with distinction they must enter their final semester with a CGPA of at least 3.5 and earn a minimum grade of A- in both their senior/research seminar and the thesis.

Transfer requests are reviewed case by case. Courses approved for transfer appear on the transcript with a TR grade and are not counted toward the semester or cumulative GPA. Transfer credit cannot be used to fulfill the mandatory Habib Liberal Core requirements, and all transfers must follow both University and Higher Education Commission (HEC) policies.
