How GPA Is Calculated

Semester GPA (SGPA) and cumulative GPA (CGPA) are each calculated by dividing total grade points earned by total credits attempted in the relevant period. Transfer credits, Pass/No Credit courses, Audit, and ungraded labs are excluded from the GPA calculation. Every F grade counts toward GPA except where excluded by the university's repeated-course or change-of-major policies. An Incomplete (I) converts automatically to F if not resolved by the third week of the next full semester, and that F counts toward CGPR.

Academic Standing

Undergraduate students maintain Good Academic Standing at a CGPA of at least 1.80 for students with 1–30 credit hours completed, or at least 2.00 for students with 31 or more credit hours completed. Falling below the applicable threshold results in an Academic Performance Warning, escalating to Continued Academic Performance Warning after up to two consecutive primary semesters, then Academic Suspension if standing is not restored. A student readmitted after suspension who cannot maintain good standing faces Academic Dismissal, after which readmission is not possible. Some programs (e.g. Nursing, QUEST) set higher GPA requirements than this university-wide floor.

Graduation GPA Requirement

Undergraduate degree completion requires a minimum cumulative GPA (CGPA) of 2.00, alongside program-specific credit requirements. Some programs require a higher graduating GPA than this university-wide floor.

Dean's List and Latin Honors

Effective for the 2026–2027 academic year, FDU recognizes three semester honor levels for full-time undergraduates completing a minimum of 12 credits: President's List (GPA 3.90), Dean's List (GPA 3.50), and Honors List (GPA 3.20); part-time students may qualify carrying 6 or more credits per semester sustained over 12 consecutive credits.

Graduation (Latin) honors are based on cumulative GPA: 3.85 summa cum laude, 3.67 magna cum laude, 3.33 cum laude, computed on weighted grades from a minimum of 54 FDU credits.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at FDU?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at FDU?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
