Amarillo College (AC) GPA Calculator

AC grades on a 4.0 scale with five letter grades: A (4), B (3), C (2), D (1), and F (0).

There is no A+ and no plus/minus grading at all — A itself, at 4.0, is the top of the scale.

Several marks appear on a transcript but carry no grade points and are not computed in your GPA: I (Incomplete), W (Withdrawal), WE (Withdrawal Exception), and AU (Audit).

Your semester GPA is the number of grade points earned divided by the credit hours attempted that term; your cumulative GPA divides the total grade points earned by the total credit hours attempted across all terms.

If you repeat a course, only your highest grade counts toward your GPA — every attempt still appears on your record, but repeats are excluded from the grade-point calculation for semester, cumulative, and graduation GPA alike.

Your graduation GPA excludes remedial/developmental coursework and all but your highest grade on repeats; it determines eligibility for graduation and honors but does not appear on your transcript.

You're placed on Academic Probation when your semester GPA falls below 2.0 and your cumulative GPA is below 2.5. You're removed once you earn a 2.0 GPA or better on all AC coursework during a probation semester.

If your semester GPA is still below 2.0 while on probation, you're placed on Academic Suspension for at least one semester — you can't attend classes during that time, and you return afterward on probation.

If your graduation GPA falls below 2.00, you may petition the Vice President and Dean of Instruction to exclude grades in courses not required for your degree or certificate — but if that petition is granted, you become ineligible for graduation with honors.

The Scholastic Honors List is published each fall and spring for students enrolled in 12+ hours with a 3.6 GPA or above — you don't need to be in Honors classes or the Presidential Scholars Program to qualify.

With a GPA of 3.0 or greater, you can work with a professor (department approval required) to add an honors component to a course through the "honors by contract" system.

No university is required to accept more than 66 semester credit hours in transfer from a community college like AC, though a receiving school may choose to accept more. Courses carrying a Texas Common Course Number are designed to transfer to public Texas colleges and universities.
