How grading works at Fairfield University

Fairfield University grades undergraduates on a 4.00 scale with both grade points and a matching percentage range for every letter: A (4.00, 93-100), A- (3.67, 90-92), B+ (3.33, 87-89), B (3.00, 83-86), B- (2.67, 80-82), C+ (2.33, 77-79), C (2.00, 73-76), C- (1.67, 70-72), D (1.00, 60-69), and F (0.00, 0-59).

There is no A+ and no D+ or D- — the plus modifier is only ever available for B or C, and the minus modifier only ever for A, B, or C.

How your GPA is calculated at Fairfield University

Each semester's course grades are computed into a weighted average: the number of credits per course is multiplied by the grade points earned per course, and the total is divided by the total credits attempted.

If you repeat a failed course, both the original F and the new grade are averaged into your cumulative GPA (though only the repeat credits count toward your degree). If you repeat a course you already passed, both grades are still averaged into your GPA, but the repeat's credits don't count toward your degree.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at Fairfield University?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at Fairfield University?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Fairfield University GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
Does Fairfield University award an A+?

No. Fairfield's catalog states the plus modifier "may be added to grades of B or C" only — never A. A itself, at 4.00, is the top of the scale.

Does Fairfield University award a D+ or D-?

No. Fairfield's catalog limits the plus modifier to B or C and the minus modifier to A, B, or C — D never receives either modifier. The scale goes directly from D (1.00) to F (0.00).

How does the Credit/No Credit option affect my GPA at Fairfield University?

Undergraduates may take up to two courses over their Fairfield career on a Credit/No Credit basis (available after 30 credits, and not for major/required or competitive-program courses). Earning a C or above records as "credit"; C- or below records as "no credit." Neither outcome is factored into your GPA, though "credit" still counts toward graduation.

Does an Incomplete (I) or Withdrawal (W) affect my GPA at Fairfield University?

No printed grade-point value applies to either. An Incomplete must normally be resolved within 30 days of the next semester's start or it becomes an F. A Withdrawal is recorded on your permanent record as W but is not one of the graded marks (A/B/C/D/F) that carry grade points.
