How GPA Is Calculated

Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University records course grades and computes the weighted cumulative GPA on a scale out of 5.00, per the Deanship of Admission & Registration's official grading guide. The lowest passing grade (D) carries 2.00 points, and a failing grade (F) carries 1.00 point, not 0.00 — a non-zero fail floor that is standard practice at PSAU and several other Saudi public universities. A "Denied" (محروم) grade, assigned when a student is barred from a course, also carries 1.00 point on this scale.

Which Grades Count Toward the GPA

Only letter grades with a printed point value (A+ through F, and the administrative "Denied" grade) are counted in the cumulative GPA. The following course statuses carry no grade points and are excluded from the GPA calculation: In-Progress, Incomplete, No-grade-Pass, No-grade-Fail, Withdrawn (with excuse), and Exemption.

Graduation Classification and Honours Ranks

A student's overall grade at graduation is based on their weighted cumulative GPA (out of 5.00):

  • Excellent (ممتاز): 4.50 to 5.00
  • Very Good (جيد جداً): 3.75 to less than 4.50
  • Good (جيد): 2.75 to less than 3.75
  • Pass (مقبول): 2.00 to less than 2.75

A separate, more selective Honours Rank is also awarded at graduation:

  • First Class Honours: cumulative GPA 4.75 to 5.00
  • Second Class Honours: cumulative GPA 4.25 to less than 4.75

To receive First or Second Class Honours, a student must additionally meet all of the following: (1) never have failed any course, at PSAU or at another university; (2) have completed graduation requirements within the average of the minimum and maximum duration allowed to remain enrolled in their college; and (3) have completed no less than 60% of their graduation requirements at PSAU itself.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at PSAU?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at PSAU?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University (PSAU) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
Is PSAU's GPA out of 4 or out of 5?

Out of 5.00. PSAU's Deanship of Admission & Registration states that a student's overall graduation grade is based on their weighted cumulative GPA "out of (5.00)", and every honors and graduation-classification threshold the university publishes is likewise stated only on the 5.00 scale. On this scale, the lowest passing grade (D) is worth 2.00 points and a failing grade (F) is worth 1.00 point (not 0.00).
