Non-Graded Notations
QCC does not offer an A+ grade — the highest grade is A (4.00 quality points). Several notations appear on transcripts but are not computed in the Quality Point Average (QPA):
- I (Incomplete) — major requirements satisfied; work must be finished by the end of the 12th week of the following full semester or the grade converts to F.
- I/R (Incomplete/Repeat) — student has agreed to repeat the course within the following year.
- AU (Audit) — registered as an audit student.
- W (Withdrawal) — officially withdrew on their own.
- WA (Administrative Withdrawal) — withdrawn for financial, immunization, medical, or disciplinary reasons.
- X — no official withdrawal but insufficient basis for evaluation; treated as unsatisfactory progress for financial aid purposes.
- P (Pass) — satisfactorily completed with a C grade or higher; counted in credits attempted but not in the QPA.
- Q — course has a lab/clinical component reflected in the overall course grade.

Repeated Courses, Withdrawal & Fresh Start
If a course is repeated, only one grade is used in computing the QPA, though both the original and the repeat grade remain on the permanent record. A student may withdraw without penalty through the 10th week of class; after that point, the instructor may award a "W" (not computed in the QPA) if work is passing, or an "F" (computed in the QPA) if it is not.
Students may use a one-time "Fresh Start" option after returning to QCC following at least two consecutive years away: the QPA is then calculated only from the point of readmission, for academic-standing purposes.

Academic Standing Tiers
Good Academic Standing requires a cumulative QPA of at least 2.0. Falling below 2.0 places a student on Academic Notice (tiers 1-3 across consecutive semesters, with registration restrictions possible at tiers 2-3). A student whose cumulative QPA is below 2.0 but whose most recent term GPA is 2.2 or higher qualifies for Extended Academic Notice instead of escalating. After three consecutive semesters of Academic Notice without qualifying for Extended Academic Notice, a student is placed on Academic Pause and must sit out one semester before re-entry.

Degree & Certificate Completion
All associate degrees and certificates require a minimum cumulative Quality Point Average (QPA) of 2.0, along with a minimum of 25% of the credit hours in the degree or certificate earned in residence at QCC (only 25% of credits in certificates of 30 or fewer credits may come from Credit for Prior Learning).

Dean's List, Honor Societies & Graduation Honors
Dean's List requires a semester QPA of 3.50 or higher, a cumulative QPA of 2.00 or higher, at least 12 credits earned, and no grade below C; the Merit List uses the same criteria for 6-11 credits earned. Phi Theta Kappa membership requires a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher with at least 12 QCC credits completed. The Commonwealth Honors Scholar designation requires completing the Honors Program (four courses, including IDS 200, each with a B or higher) plus graduating with a cumulative QPA of 3.30 or higher.
Graduation honors are awarded at three levels: Highest Honors (QPA 3.6 or higher), High Honors (QPA 3.3-3.59), and Honors (QPA 3.0-3.29).

Transfer Credit Policy
Credit is awarded for courses completed with a grade of C or higher that apply to the student's QCC major. Courses with a D grade may also transfer if the student's Quality Point Average (QPA) was 2.00 or higher at the sending institution. Transferred credits count only as earned credit hours — no quality points or grades transfer or are calculated into the student's QPA.
