How GPA Is Calculated
A final grade of "I" (Incomplete) may be recorded only when a student has completed at least 75% of coursework but could not finish due to illness or circumstances beyond their control. It is not computed in the GPA for the semester recorded, but automatically becomes an F for grade and grade-point purposes if the coursework is not completed by the end of the next regular semester.
In pass/fail courses, a "Pass" counts toward earned hours but is not calculated in the GPA; a "Fail" is calculated in the GPA at the same point value as a standard F.
When a course is repeated at Arkansas Tech, only the grade from the best attempt is calculated into the cumulative GPA, although every attempt remains on the academic record. A course already passed at the highest possible grade cannot be repeated for GPA adjustment.

Academic Probation & Suspension
Students are placed on academic probation whenever their semester GPA falls below 2.00, unless their cumulative GPA is 2.00 or higher; this also applies to entering transfer students. Probation is removed once the cumulative GPA reaches 2.00 or higher.
Freshmen who do not clear probation continue on probation the following semester. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors who do not clear probation but reach at least a 1.75 semester GPA also continue on probation, unless the suspension policy applies.
Suspension is automatic for sophomores, juniors, and seniors on probation who fail to reach a 1.75 semester GPA, or who fail to clear probation within three successive full semesters.

Dean's List & President's List
Undergraduates completing at least 12 earned semester credit hours in a fall or spring term with a 4.000 semester GPA are placed on the President's List; those with a semester GPA from 3.5000 to 3.999 are placed on the Dean's List. Remedial coursework does not count toward the earned-hours minimum or the GPA calculation for these honors.

Transfer Credit & GPA
Grade-point adjustments for repeated courses are not made for credit transferred from other colleges or universities — only courses retaken at Arkansas Tech itself affect the cumulative GPA calculation.
