Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST) GPA Calculator

CUST uses a relative grading scheme: letter grades are assigned by comparing each student's performance against the distribution of their class, not against fixed percentage cut-offs. Because grading is relative, the regulations publish no university-wide percentage-to-letter band — only a letter-to-grade-point scale on a 0.00–4.00 range.

A course grade is built from weighted assessment components: midterm examination 20%, assignments, quizzes and projects 30–40%, and a final examination 40–50%. The lowest passing grade is D (“poor but passing”, 1.00 grade points); an F carries 0.00 and must be repeated.

CUST reports a semester GPA and a cumulative GPA (CGPA). Both are credit-hour weighted: each course's grade points are multiplied by its credit hours, the products are summed, and the total is divided by the credit hours attempted — over one semester for the GPA, and over the whole program for the CGPA. Courses carrying more credit hours therefore weigh more heavily.

• A withdrawn (W) course is not counted toward the GPA.
• When a course is failed and repeated, both attempts appear on the transcript but only the later grade counts toward the CGPA.
• For CGPA improvement, a student may repeat up to six courses; both grades are shown, but only the higher grade is used in the CGPA.

Academic standing at CUST is tied to the 2.00 CGPA floor:

• Warning — a student whose CGPA falls below 2.00/4.00 is placed on warning status when results are declared.
• Probation — two consecutive warnings place the student on probation for the next semester.
• Discontinuation — failing to reach a CGPA of 2.00/4.00 by the end of the probation semester results in discontinuation from the program.

Separately, failing to register for two consecutive semesters (without an approved semester break) results in cancellation of admission.

To be awarded an undergraduate degree, a CUST student must complete the program credit hours prescribed by the department, satisfy any internship requirement, and achieve a minimum CGPA of 2.00 on the scale of 4.00.

A BS (4-year) degree spans a minimum of four years (eight semesters) and a maximum of seven years (fourteen semesters). A student who withdraws after the 4th semester may instead be awarded an Associate Degree, provided they hold a CGPA of at least 2.00/4.00 and have completed at least 60 credit hours (including 34 credit hours of general-education courses).

CUST awards medals at convocation on merit rather than by a single fixed cut-off. To be eligible for a program medal a graduate must have completed the degree within the normal duration, hold a CGPA of 3.50 or higher on the 4.00 scale, have no F grade on the transcript, have taken no transfer credits from other institutions, and have no disciplinary punishment.

• Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals go to the top three students of each degree program, provided at least ten students from the batch are graduating.
• The Quaid-i-Azam Gold Medal is awarded to the overall best achiever of the university, judged on academics and co-curricular performance.

CUST may grant transfer credit for coursework completed at an HEC-recognized Pakistani or foreign university, on submission of the original transcript. Transfer is permitted only where the applicant secured a grade of C+ or above in the course and it fits the target degree program.

Accepted credits are recorded on the transcript without grades, so they do not enter the CUST CGPA. The total transferred credit may not exceed 50% of the credit hours required for the degree, and the department has the final right to accept or reject any request.
