University of Wah (UW) GPA Calculator

The University of Wah uses absolute grading on marks bands fixed by the university's own Examination Regulations — your letter grade depends only on your own percentage, not on how your class performed. UOW's scale is unusually coarse: it publishes just nine grades (A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, D, F), with no C- or D+ step, on a 0.00–4.00 grade-point scale. The passing floor for grade points is unusually low: D begins at 40% and carries 1.00 grade point, with F below that worth 0.00. That sits alongside a separate, stricter rule the same regulations set: the minimum pass mark for any individual course is 50%, so a 40-49% D still counts as a failed course that must be repeated or improved, even though it earns grade points toward your GPA.

The D grade is mandatory to improve before you become eligible for the award of your degree, and an Incomplete ("I") grade is not counted in your CGPA calculation at all.

UOW defines Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) as the credit-hour weighted average of the grade points you earn across every course in one semester, and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) as the same weighted average across every semester you have attended. A four-credit-hour course moves your average twice as far as a two-credit-hour course.

An Incomplete ("I") grade is excluded from the CGPA calculation until you resolve it — you can sit the End Semester Examination for an "I" course whenever it is next offered, and your earlier mid-term and sessional marks for that course stand.

Repeating a failed course: an F grade must be repeated. You may also choose to improve any grade lower than B — up to 6 courses for MBA/BS(Hons)/BBA/BSc Engineering students, 3 courses for MA/MSc students, and 2 courses for M.Ed students, across your whole degree. Improving a course cancels the previous grade and substitutes the latest grade earned in your CGPA; the regulations state the improved grade should not exceed a B. Once your CGPA reaches 2.00 after your minimum residency period, with no outstanding F grade required for the degree, you may no longer improve it further.

UOW places a student on Probation if their CGPA at the end of an academic year falls between 1.75 and 1.99 (inclusive).

Academic Relegation means repeating the entire previous academic year (all courses) by joining a junior batch. UOW relegates a student whose CGPA is below 2.00 at the end of two consecutive academic years, or whose CGPA is below 1.75 in any single academic year.

Academic Dismissal — removal from the university's nominal roll — follows if a relegated student still fails to reach a CGPA of 2.00 by the end of the academic year in which they were placed on relegation. A dismissed student may apply for one-time fresh admission into the first semester, without going through the normal admission process, but only once.

A student who does not attend for two semesters and is out of contact with the university is struck off the rolls, though they may seek re-admission into the same semester(s) if later offered.

UOW awards the undergraduate degree once you have successfully completed all required credit hours/courses within your program's prescribed duration and reached a final Cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.

Programs run to a fixed maximum duration to complete required course work: 6 academic years for BS(Hons)/BBA/BSAF/BT, 7 academic years for BSc Engineering, 3 academic years for Master's programs, and 1.5 academic years for B.Ed/M.Ed — a student who has not finished by then ceases to be a student of the university.

A student may freeze or drop at most two semesters across the whole program. For MA/MSc/M.Ed degrees a frozen or dropped semester does not count toward that maximum duration; for BS(Hons)/BSc Engineering/BBA/MBA (3.5-year) programs it does count.

UOW awards a Gold Medal and certificate to the student who tops their degree program by CGPA, subject to a minimum class size and CGPA that vary by faculty: 25 students / 3.5 CGPA for most disciplines, 15 students / 3.25 CGPA for the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, and 10 students / 3.5 CGPA for graduate programs.

The topper must also have completed the degree within the minimum residency period and have a record of good conduct, certified by the concerned Dean. If two or more students tie on CGPA, the medal goes to whoever has the higher aggregate marks; if they are still tied, the medal is awarded to all of them.
