National University of Modern Languages (NUML) GPA Calculator

NUML uses an absolute grading system on a 0.00–4.00 scale — your grade is set by the exact percentage you score, not by a class curve. Every grade, its marks range and its point value are listed in the Grade Scale Reference near the top of this page, so they always match the scheme this calculator runs on.

One nuance that single table can't capture: for the middle grades, NUML awards grade points across a range rather than a flat value. Officially a B+ (75–79.99%) is worth 3.50–3.99, a B (70–74.99%) is worth 3.00–3.49, and so on, with the points rising with your exact mark inside the band — so a 79% B+ outscores a 75% B+. Only A and A+ are a flat 4.00, and F is 0.00. This calculator applies each grade's floor value (the figure shown in the reference table), the conservative end of that range.

The minimum passing grade is D (50%); anything below 50% is an F and must be repeated.

NUML reports two figures. Your Semester GPA (SGPA) is the credit-weighted average of the grade points you earned in a single semester. Your Cumulative GPA (CGPA) is the credit-weighted average across every semester you have completed.

The formula is the standard credit-weighted mean:

CGPA = Σ (course credit hours × grade points earned) ÷ Σ (course credit hours)

Because NUML grades on continuous bands, the grade points earned reflect your exact percentage within a band — a 78% B+ earns more points than a 75% B+ — so heavier and higher-scoring courses pull your CGPA harder.

NUML places a student on academic probation based on CGPA:

• A CGPA of 1.50 or above but below 2.00 in any semester results in first probation.
• Earning a CGPA in that same 1.50–2.00 range again in the very next semester moves the student to second (final) probation.

A CGPA below 1.50 in any semester, or a second consecutive probation followed by another CGPA under 2.00, leads to relegation — the student is not promoted and repeats or improves the courses of the previous semester(s).

NUML awards an undergraduate (BS) degree only to students who complete the required number of credit hours for their program with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 on the 4.00 scale.

A student who has finished the coursework but is short of 2.00 must raise the CGPA through the permitted course improvement attempts before the degree can be awarded.

NUML awards a Gold Medal to the highest-achieving student of a discipline/batch on the basis of CGPA, with each campus considered separately. The minimum CGPA required depends on how many students are in the program:

• 1–4 students: CGPA of 4.00/4.00.
• 5–9 students: CGPA of 3.75/4.00.
• 10 or more students: CGPA of 3.50/4.00.

Ties are broken by comparing CGPA to three decimal places; if still tied, both students receive the medal.

NUML allows credits to be transferred from other recognised institutions under strict limits:

• Only courses in which at least a C grade (or equivalent) was secured are eligible.
• A maximum of 50% of a program's total credits may be transferred.
• Transferred courses appear on the final transcript, but the transferred grades are not used to calculate your CGPA — only credits move across, not grade points.

Credit transfer is recommended by the concerned Dean and can be applied for any time after the first semester.
