How grading works at Foundation University (FUSST)

Foundation University's School of Science & Technology (FUSST) uses different pass floors for Undergraduate and Graduate (MBA/MS, PhD) programs. An Undergraduate course is failed and graded F below 50% marks; an MBA/MS or PhD course is failed below 64% marks. Either way, a failed course is not counted toward the aggregate marks.

Regardless of marks already earned in midterm/internal assessment, a student must obtain at least 20% marks in the terminal (final) examination to pass a course. A student who passes a course only via a retake is barred from receiving any medal or certificate for that result.

How SGPA and CGPA are calculated and rounded at FUI

The Semester GPA (SGPA) is Sum of (Credit Hours × Grade Point Credit) / Sum of Credit Hours; the Cumulative GPA (CGPA) is the same calculation across every semester taken.

The two are rounded differently. SGPA is rounded to one decimal place using standard rounding (a second-decimal digit of 5 or above raises the first decimal, e.g. 1.45 becomes 1.5, while 1.44 stays 1.4). CGPA is truncated to two decimal places without rounding (e.g. 1.445 is recorded as 1.44).

Academic probation at Foundation University

A student is placed on academic probation once their CGPA falls below the minimum for their program: 2.00 for Undergraduate, 2.50 for MBA/MS, and 3.00 for PhD. A written warning and a counseling session (with parents or guardians where possible) follow.

Consecutive probations lead to dismissal: an Undergraduate student ceases to be a student after three consecutive probations; an MBA/MS or PhD scholar after two. A student with two consecutive probations also cannot register for fresh courses the next semester without HOD approval.

Minimum CGPA to graduate from Foundation University

A student with a CGPA below 2.00 (below 2.50 for MBA programs) in their last semester will not graduate.

Gold Medal, Silver Medal and Distinction/Merit Certificates at FUI

Each degree program (except PhD/MS) awards one Gold Medal to the student with the highest CGPA and one Silver Medal to the second-highest, per calendar year, provided the student carries no F, Repeat, or Drop/Freeze on record. Neither medal is awarded below 3.50 CGPA.

A Distinction Certificate requires a CGPA of 3.75 or above; a Merit Certificate requires 3.50 or above — both carry the same no-F/Repeat/Drop-Freeze condition and both exclude PhD/MS.

Migration and credit transfer rules at Foundation University

A student migrating into FUI needs a minimum CGPA of 2.00/4.00 (Undergraduate) or 2.80/4.00 (Graduate) to qualify. Only grades of B and above are considered for transfer, and up to 60% of credit hours may be transferred into a graduate program. Migrated students are not eligible for the Best Graduate Award.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at FUI?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at FUI?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Foundation University (FUI) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
What CGPA keeps a Foundation University student off academic probation?

A CGPA of at least 2.00 for Undergraduate programs, 2.50 for MBA/MS, and 3.00 for PhD. Falling below triggers a written warning and counseling; three consecutive Undergraduate probations (two for MBA/MS/PhD) end the student's enrollment.

What CGPA does Foundation University require to graduate?

A student with a CGPA below 2.00 (below 2.50 for MBA programs) in their final semester will not graduate.

Does Foundation University round the CGPA?

No — CGPA is truncated to two decimal places without rounding (1.445 is recorded as 1.44). SGPA, however, is rounded to one decimal place using standard rounding rules.

Does this grading table apply to Foundation University's medical programs (MBBS/BDS)?

No. Foundation University Islamabad also operates a School of Health Sciences (FUSH), a constituent school separate from FUSST (the school this calculator represents), which runs MBBS/BDS and related programs under their own eligibility thresholds. FUSH is not covered by this grading table.
