How grading works at HITEC University

How HITEC calculates GPA and CGPA
HITEC reports a semester GPA for each term and a Cumulative GPA (CGPA) across all credit courses. Both are credit-hour weighted, so higher-credit courses carry more weight:
- CGPA = Σ(P × N) ÷ ΣN, where P is the grade point earned in a course and N is its credit hours; the semester GPA is the same formula over one semester's courses.
- When a course is repeated, the transcript shows both the old and new grades, but the CGPA is based on the better earned grade.
- A course repeated in the Summer Semester can earn a maximum grade of B.

Attendance, F and I grades, and course repetition
HITEC ties standing in a course to attendance and completion:
- Attendance: a student with less than 75% attendance in a subject is not allowed to sit its end-semester examination and is awarded an F in that subject; an F is cleared only by repeating the course when next offered.
- Incomplete (I): a student who misses the end-semester exam for an acceptable reason, with attendance not below 75%, receives an I and makes up the course; failing to make it up turns the I into an F.
- Repeat limits: apart from clearing F grades, an undergraduate may repeat up to six courses and a graduate student up to two courses to improve CGPA. A student who repeats a course to improve is not eligible for top honours/awards.
- Semester freeze: up to one year may be allowed on valid grounds; the first semester cannot be frozen.
