How the GPA Is Calculated
The grade point average is computed by dividing the number of credit hours attempted into the total number of grade points earned. The official transcript shows two GPA types: the institutional GPA, based only on hours attempted at Troy University, and the cumulative GPA, based on hours attempted at Troy University and transfer institutions combined.
A course may be repeated once for grade forgiveness if it is repeated at Troy University; only the first grade earned may be forgiven and excluded from the GPA. If a course is repeated more than once, every attempt beyond the first counts in the GPA.

Academic Standing
A student is in good standing when their overall cumulative GPA is 2.00 or greater.
A student must earn or maintain a 2.0 GPA each term or be placed on academic probation; a student on probation is limited to 13 semester hours (7 for accelerated terms) and must earn at least a 2.0 term GPA each subsequent term until their overall GPA reaches 2.0.
A student on probation who fails to earn a 2.0 term GPA is suspended: the first suspension lasts one semester/term, the second lasts two semesters/terms, and a third suspension is for an indefinite period.
