University of Jeddah (UJ) GPA Calculator

University of Jeddah grades courses on a point scale under the Council of University Affairs' unified "Study and Examination Regulations for the University Level," applying its own council-approved Implementing Rules for each article. UJ's Implementing Rule for the course-grading article adopts the 5.00-point column of the shared national table only — no 4.00-scale alternative applies anywhere at UJ.

Unusually, the lowest passing-scale outcome, Fail (F), is worth 1.00 grade point, not 0 — there is no zero floor anywhere on UJ's adopted scale.

Two special course-status codes carry no grade-point weight and do not affect the GPA: In-Progress (IP) for a multi-term course, and Incomplete (IC) for coursework a student could not finish by the term deadline.

Your semester GPA is the total grade points you earned in a semester divided by the total credit units you studied that semester. Grade points for a course equal its credit units multiplied by the point value of the grade you earned.

Your cumulative GPA is the same calculation applied to every course you've studied since joining University of Jeddah — total grade points earned divided by total credit units studied.

A student receives an academic warning when their cumulative GPA falls below the minimum required for their major.

A student is dismissed from University of Jeddah after three consecutive academic warnings for a low cumulative GPA (the University Council may grant a fourth chance to a student able to raise their GPA, on the college's recommendation), or for failing to complete graduation requirements within one and a half times the program's standard duration (extendable to double the original duration in exceptional cases, plus up to two further semesters at the University Council's discretion).

The minimum cumulative GPA required to graduate from University of Jeddah is 2.00 out of 5.00 (grade "Pass"), except for Engineering College and Computer Sciences & Engineering College majors, which require 2.75 out of 5.00 (grade "Good").

A student who completes all graduation requirements but falls short of the floor may repeat previously studied courses to raise their cumulative GPA — up to 28 credit hours across a maximum of three additional semesters. A repeated F or D course converts to XF or XD and is excluded from the cumulative GPA.

At graduation, the cumulative GPA is also classified as: Excellent (4.50–5.00), Very Good (3.75 up to but less than 4.50), Good (2.75 up to but less than 3.75), or Pass (2.00 up to but less than 2.75).

First Class Honors requires a cumulative GPA from 4.75 up to 5.00 out of 5.00 at graduation. Second Class Honors requires from 4.25 up to (but less than) 4.75 out of 5.00.

Both require the student to have never failed a course — at University of Jeddah or any other university — to have completed their program within no more than the average of their college's minimum and maximum allowed durations, and to have completed at least 60% of graduation requirements at University of Jeddah itself.

To transfer into University of Jeddah from another university, a student must come from an academically recognized institution (a recognition letter is required for private or foreign institutions), hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 out of 5.00 (or 2.00 out of 4.00), not be dismissed or withdrawn from any university, transfer into the same major studied previously, and complete at least 50% of graduation requirements at University of Jeddah.

Courses studied outside the university are equated by the college council on the department's recommendation only where the student earned a grade of "Good" (C) or higher; equated courses appear on the transcript but are excluded from the cumulative GPA. Equivalency can also follow a passed university placement/acceleration exam or a UJ-recognized global certificate.
