CECOS University of IT and Emerging Sciences GPA Calculator

CECOS University uses a relative grading system: letter grades in a course are assigned by comparing each student's performance against the rest of their class, not against fixed percentage cut-offs. When a course has fewer than 20 students, an absolute grading system is used instead.

Before grades are assigned, marks are normalized — each student's marks are multiplied by 100 divided by the highest marks secured in that class. A student who scores less than 50% aggregate marks (before normalization) is awarded an F. Because grading is relative, there is no university-wide percentage-to-letter band; the letter grades and their grade points are listed in the Grade Scale Reference on this page.

CECOS reports a Semester GPA for each term and a Cumulative GPA (CGPA) across all semesters. Both are credit-hour weighted — each course's grade point is multiplied by its credit hours, summed, and divided by the total credit hours — and rounded to two decimal places (a third decimal is used only to break ties for merit positions).

• A W (Withdrawn) grade has no impact on the CGPA, but withdrawing after the 6th week of a semester results in an automatic F that counts in the GPA and stays on the transcript.
• An I (Incomplete) is used only for a Final Year Project spanning two semesters and is converted once the requirements are met.
• Grade points are fixed: no grade-point values other than those in the Grade Scale Reference are used, and raw percentages are never printed on the transcript.

A student whose semester GPA falls below 2.00 is placed on probation for the following semester. A student on probation may not register for more than 15 credit hours.

• Two consecutive probations — even after attending a summer semester within the academic year — result in relegation; the student is treated as external until the GPA recovers, then re-admitted as a regular student.
• No consecutive probations are allowed in the first four semesters: a student on probation a second time in that period (even after summer) is removed from the rolls, with re-admission permitted only once during the degree.
• Relegation is allowed at most twice across the 4- or 5-year program.

To complete a degree, a CECOS student must earn a minimum CGPA of 2.00. A student finishing the final semester below 2.00 may be allowed re-admission to repeat one or more courses in which their grade is below C, provided they are within the program's permitted time limit.

The maximum time to complete the degree (where the accreditation body does not prescribe one) is 7 years for a 4-year program and 8 years for a 5-year program, inclusive of any relegation or freezing period.

Students are recognized for high academic standing:

• Distinction — awarded to candidates securing a CGPA of 3.67 or above who passed all examinations on the first attempt within four academic years of joining.
• Gold Medal — awarded to the graduate who obtained first position among all passed students with a CGPA above 3.67, passed all university examinations on the first attempt, and completed the degree (including the research project/internship) within the minimum duration. A graduate penalized by the Discipline, Unfair-Means, or Appellate Committee is not eligible, and at least five active students must be in the final class. The medal is conferred at convocation.

Credits are transferred on a course-by-course basis, only between HEC- and internationally recognized universities, and only where an outside course is equivalent to a CECOS course. No credit hour is transferred if the grade is below C.

A transferring student must be regularly admitted and earn a minimum of 60 credit hours at CECOS (out of a total 130–140) to be entitled to the degree. For engineering programs, transferred credits may not exceed 50% of the program's total required credits.
